Leta Volking- a 70 year-old longtime resident of Mobile passed away Wednesday, March 27, 2013.  She worked as a Pharmacy Technician at Skyland Drugs for more than 40 years and was a longtime member of Kingswood United Methodist Church. She will always be remembered as a very giving person who enjoyed helping others and whose primary joy in life was her beloved grandchildren.  Mrs. Volking was preceded in death by her father, William Roy Young. She is survived by her husband of 31 years, Hollis Volking; children, Bradley Neyman (Julie), Ken Neyman (Sandra) and Natalie Rogers (Mike); mother, Catherine Young; grandchildren, Jennifer, Justin, Kristen, and Allison Neyman and Savannah, Jackson, and Mason Rogers; brother Brigham Young (Robin); sister, Anita Young; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held from Kingswood United Methodist Church on Saturday, March 30, 2013 at 11 a.m.  The family will receive friends at the church from 9:30 am until service hour. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to West Wilmer United Mission Church, 6333 Piccadilly Square Dr., Mobile, AL. 36609.

Karen Elizabeth Cox a 55 year-old resident of Mobile passed away at her home on Thursday, March 14, 2013. She loved animals, especially horses which she enjoyed riding in her youth. Ms. Cox was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd G. Cox, Sr. and Anna I. Voivedich Cox; brother, John Cox; and grandson, Jason Cosper, Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Pulliam (Tyler); grandchildren, Liam Cosper and Noah Pulliam; siblings, Mary Ann Mercer, Lloyd G. Cox, Jr., Thomas Cox (Kelly), Michael Cox, and Lynne Piper (Larry); nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church on Friday, March 22, 2013, at 10 a.m. The family will receive friends at Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street on Thursday, March 21, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Garland Winfield Glass, age 82, a native of Marengo County, Alabama and a longtime resident of Mobile, Alabama died on March 16, 2013 peacefully at home. He was a member of Dauphin Way Baptist Church, was a member of the Monday Morning Prayer Group and ABC Sunday School Class. He worked as an Engineering Technician for the US Government and served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Gladys M. Glass; children, Deborah Lynn (Per) Jansson, Paul Richard (Deb) Glass, Charlotte Elaine (Bob) Fox; brother, Thurman Allen (Ann) Glass; four grandchildren, Alexander Madison Glass, Erin Elizabeth Fox, Lauren Margaret Fox and Tara Kathryn Fox. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at 2:00 PM from the chapel of Radney Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Wednesday 12 noon until service time at the funeral home. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and Odyssey Hospice.

Mr. Joseph Arthur Cruthirds, age 81, a native and resident of Mobile, Alabama died on March 14, 2013 at a local hospital. He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Arthur Cruthirds. He is survived by his sons, Brian Joseph (Jackie) Cruthirds, Kenneth Bertram (Cindy) Cruthirds; Kevin Wayne Cruthirds and eight grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 18, 2013 at 10:00 AM from the chapel of Radney Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Monday 9-10:00 AM at the funeral home. Betty Jean Edwards passed away peacefully in the arms of an Angel on March 13, 2013. She joins her husband Buddy in eternity after sharing a life of 65 years together. She was born the youngest daughter of John Brooks and Minnie Lee Lavinghouse on July 24, 1928 in Mobile, Alabama. She spent her life in loving devotion to her family. She had a deep and strong Catholic Faith which carried her through all the times of her life. Betty is survived by her five children, John Henry, James Michael, David Anthony and wife Karen, Mary Ann and Husband Larry, William Donald and wife Norma Jean; her grandchildren, Josh, Jamie, Brittany, Melissa, Matthew, Rachel, Kayley, and Daniel; and her great-grandson, Jesse. She is also survived by her brother George Guy Lavinghouse of Houston, Texas, niece, Sunny Stauter and husband John; and her sister-in-law, Carolyn Anderson and husband Carley. The family would like to express our sincere appreciation to the "Angels" who lovingly cared for her during her final days. The family will receive friends from 4 P.M. until 7 P.M. on Sunday, March 17, 2013 at Radney Funeral Home, Dauphin Street. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 A.M. on Monday, March 18, 2013 at St. Matthew Catholic Church. The family will receive friends from 9 A.M. until 10 A.M. on Monday at the Church. John Walter Nichols, Jr. a native of Chester, Georgia and a longtime resident of Mobile, died on Wednesday, March 13, 2013.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Katherine Ponder.
He is survived by his wife, Miriam Nichols; two children, Don (Sue) Nichols and Terry (Dan) Watson; five grandchildren, Stephen Nichols, Mark Nichols, Jonathan Nichols, Lori Beth Graham and Katie Smith; great grandchildren , Finnegan Nichols, Florence Nichols, Preston Nichols, Chloe Nichols, Tate Graham and Cole Graham.

Lt. Colonel Vincent P. Schiavoni, U.S. Air Force (Ret), a native of Yonkers, NY, and a resident of Mobile since 1960, died on Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at his residence. Upon his graduation from Manhattan College, NY with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration in June 1940, he enlisted as a Private in the U.S. Army and stationed at Ft. McClellan, AL. In December 1942 he was commissioned a 2nd Lt. U.S. Army Air Corps and assigned to Maxwell Field, AL where he met 2nd Lt. Catherine R. Sindik, U.S. Army Nurse Corps of Mobile, AL, whom he subsequently married. During his military career he had many varied assignments including the Pacific Islands, Fairbanks, Alaska, the AF ROTC Faculty at West Virginia University, and Brookley Air Force Base as Executive Officer, Directorate of Material Management, where he retired in November 1964. He was employed by the American National Bank of Mobile and remained in banking until his retirement in 1986 as Executive Vice-President of AmSouth Bank, Mobile, AL. He was active in many civic, banking and military organizations and activities including instructor for the American Institute of Banking; Management Instructor, University of South Alabama, College of Business and Management Studies; Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Better Business Bureau; instructor in Career Planning at Spring Hill College and designated as an Accredited Executive in Personnel Management. He served as President of the Mobile Chapter of the Air Force Association; was one of the organizers of the Mobile Veteran's Day Commission; served as a Chairman and member of the Military Affairs Committee of the Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce; the Retired Officers Association; the American Institute of Banking and the Building Committee of St. Dominic Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Catherine Sindik Schiavoni; five children, Carol (David) Reichart, Linda Wells, Janice Mendenhall, Michael (Paula) Schiavoni, and Elizabeth Schiavoni; five grandchildren, Katie Reichart, Helen Henry, Rachel McLean, Lt. Will Sibley, U.S. Army and Joe Sibley; five great-grandchildren, Lauren, Ella and Julia McLean, Elizabeth and Anne Portman Henry; and other relatives. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 A.M. on Friday, March 15, 2013 at St. Dominic Catholic Church. The family will receive friends from 9:30 A.M. until 11 A.M. on Friday at the Church. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Dominic Catholic Church, the Little Sisters of the Poor, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital .

Betty E. Eden, beloved Mother, Nana, Sister and Friend died peacefully on Tuesday March 12, 2013 surrounded by her family. She was a native of Mobile, Alabama. She was a wonderful and loving mother and her light will shine forever in the smiles of the ones she left behind. She had a kind heart and loved everyone especially her family and will be sadly missed, but we rejoice in knowing she will be with the Lord. She is survived by three sons, Timothy Cavanaugh and his wife Terran, Edward Eden Jr. and his wife Cathy, Kenneth Eden and his wife Joy, two daughters, Debra O'Rourke and her husband Tim, Cindy Conner and her husband Gavin, 14 grandchildren, Daniel O'Rourke, Brandon O'Rourke, Phillip O'Rourke, Justin Havens, Brittany Eden, Brooke Eden, Anna Eden, Collin Conner, Drew Cavanaugh, Baily Eden, Zach Crawford, Kaydence Willis, Jordan Estelle, Josh Estelle and one great granddaughter, Haley Elaine. She is also survived by her five wonderful sisters and dear friends and two brothers, Beverly Thieffry and her husband Charles, Becky Holbrook and her husband Randy, Linda Howell and her husband Leon, Brenda Burch, Patti Lami and her husband Dennis, her dear friend Shirley Logan, her brothers Billy Mayo, Johnny Mayo, numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She is preceded in death by her father Grover Thomas Mayo, Carrie Mae Mayo, her husband Edward Eden Sr., her grandsons Tim O'Rourke, James O'Rourke, her granddaughter Devon Estelle, her sisters, Bernice Fountain, JoAnn Little, her brothers Robert Mayo, Donald Mayo and Rusty Mayo.
Visitation will be Friday 10:00 - 12:00 at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home followed by a graveside service.
