Leo Francis Toifel – an 83 year-old lifelong resident of Mobile, AL born August 10, 1929, passed away Sunday, April 21, 2013. He was the first of four sons born to the late Thelma Eckert Toifel of Mobile and Leopold Francis Toifel of New Orleans. He was a 1947 graduate of McGill Institute where he played football and tennis. He was a veteran of the United States Naval Reserve, a charter member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, and was a retired member of the Knights of Columbus Council 3565. Mr. Toifel was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife, Shirley May Toifel, and sister-in-law, Peggy Toifel. He is survived by two children, Gary Toifel (Rhonda) and Mary Kathryn Scroggins; three brothers, Robert Toifel (Omeika), Ronald Toifel, and David Toifel (Rynn); grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, on Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the service hour. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens. Honorary pallbearers will be Cody Toifel, Ronnie Toifel, Jr., Mark Toifel, Lance Toifel, and Brick Toifel, with Jeremy Scroggins, Joel Toifel, Michael McGraw, Matthew McGraw, Marcus McGraw, and David Taylor serving as active pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
