Nancy Eubanks Terry - 63 year-old native and resident of Mobile, raised in Lake, MS, and longtime resident of Jackson, MS, passed away June 25, 2013. She graduated from Mississippi State University with a degree in elementary education and retired from Armstrong World Industries as a supervisor after many years of service. Her great joy in life was spending time with her great-nephews, Coen, Kellen, and Nick Sullivan. Mrs. Terry had a great love of animals, especially her three cats. She loved the Lord deeply and shared her faith with anyone she met. Mrs. Terry was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin J. and Irene Eubanks; sister and brother-in-law, M. Connie Sullivan and T. Gaines Sullivan; and uncle and aunt, Armistead and Erline Street. She is survived by her loving husband of 42 years, Rickey Terry, as well as nephews, other relatives, and friends. Funeral services will be held from Christ United Methodist Church on Saturday, June 29, 2013, at 1 p.m. The family will receive friends at the church from 12 noon until the service hour. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Coen Sullivan Medical Fund c/o the Gaines Sullivan Account at New Horizons Credit Union.

James Douglas Shaw – a 77 year-old lifelong resident of Mobile passed away Monday, June 24, 2013. Mr. Shaw retired from the Mobile Fire Department after 26 years of service and from Sears Roebuck after 26 years of service. He was a veteran of the United States Army and a longtime member of South Brookley United Methodist Church. He enjoyed vegetable gardening and will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor. Mr. Shaw was preceded in death by his parents, John David Shaw, Sr. and Sadie Elizabeth Smith Shaw, and brothers, John Shaw, Jr. and Lester Shaw. He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Cynthia Wilkinson Shaw; daughters, Deborah (Alan) McDonald and Angela (Peter) Schuchardt; sons, Douglas Shaw, Sr. and Dennis (Amy) Shaw; grandchildren, Kelley McDonald, Ashley (Chris) Humpal, Amanda (Matt) Sluder, Douglas Michael Shaw, Jr., Mary Shaw, Caroline Shaw, John Shaw, James Schuchardt, Sarah Alice Shaw, and Rebekah Shaw; great-grandchildren, Alex Sluder and Jackson Humpal; brother, Harry Shaw; sisters, Patty (Paul) Burch and Sue (David) Pitt; sister-in-law, Kay Shaw; brother-in-law, Melton (Patsy) Wilkinson; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Rebecca "Becky" Slagle, 57, of Port Neches, died Thursday, June 20, 2013, at The Medical Center of Southeast Texas, Port Arthur. She was born on September 3, 1955, to Lois Maybel Graves Buchanan and Carl Woodson Buchanan, in Mobile, Alabama, and had been a resident of the area for twenty-five years. Rebecca was a veteran of the United States Air Force. In her spare time, she loved taking pictures of her family, playing cards and attending Mid-County Baptist Church, Nederland, where she enjoyed the congregation. Rebecca was also a member of the American Legion, Post No. 7, Port Arthur.
Survivors include her husband of thirteen years, Jack Slagle of Port Neches; daughter, Leigh Ann Castellanos and her husband, Rene, of Edinburg; grandchildren, Carter, Preston and Bradley Castellanos; brother, Carl Woodson Buchanan and his wife, Linda, of Huntsville, Alabama; sisters, Paula Sullivan and her husband, Johnny and Carolyn Janssen, all of Mobile, Alabama. She will especially be missed by her faithful four-legged companion, Jackson. Rebecca is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Phillip Wayne Buchanan; and sister, Rowena Whatley. A gathering of Mrs. Slagle's family and friends will begin at 5:00 p.m., with her funeral service to follow at 6:00 p.m., Saturday, June 22, 2013, at Broussard's, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., June 24, 2013, at Mobile Memorial Gardens, 6100 Three Notch Road, Mobile, Alabama 36619.

Randolph Smith

Randolph Franklin "Frank" Smith – born January 11, 1924 in Opp, AL, and longtime resident of Mobile passed away at a local hospital on Tuesday, June 18, 2013, surrounded by loving family and friends. He graduated from Straughn High School in Andalusia. Following graduation he enlisted in the United States Army and served in the Pacific Theater during World War II earning many decorations, including a Purple Heart. In 2009, Mr. Smith was honored as a member of the Honor Flight. After being discharged from service in 1945, he moved to Mobile where he became employed with Hollingsworth Whitney, later Scott Paper Company, retiring in 1989. Mr. Smith was a member of Woodridge Baptist Church for many years. A longtime Mason, he was a member of the Grand Lodge of Alabama of Free and Accepted Masons, a 50 year member of Toulmin Lodge No. 875, as well as the Scottish Rite. Mr. Smith enjoyed working in his yard and watching things grow. He loved the spring and liked to stay busy with home projects. He will always be remembered as a man who was kind and gentle to everyone and for his charming personality. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, Verity Parker Smith and Ethel Carrol Smith; two sisters, Emma S. Wicker and Era S. Jackson; and a brother, Carmon Carrol Smith. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Janice K. "Jan" Smith; his loving daughter, Patricia S. Patterson; son, Matthew A Smith. Two devoted step-children, Steven L. Windham (Cheryl) and Tracy W. Frennea; two grandchildren, Jasmine L. Nelson and Justin E. Lewis; three step-grandchildren, Kirby Dean Frennea, Cody Lee Frennea, and Zachary Lawrence Windham; four great-grandchildren, L.J., Jazlyn, Joziah, and Jushun Lewis; other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Thursday, June 20, 2013, from 5-7 p.m. Funeral services will be held from Woodridge Baptist Church on Friday, June 21, at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Mobile Memorial Gardens. Josephine Valeria Thatenhurst Brown - a native of Augusta, GA and a longtime resident of Mobile, AL died Friday, June 14, 2013. She worked for 30 years in the newborn nursery at Mobile Infirmary and was a member of Cottage Hill Baptist Church. Her hobbies included cooking good meals. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Drennen Thatenhurst; daughter, Valeria Thatenhurst; son, Charles Thatenhurst; brother, Alen L. Rosier, Jr.; and sisters, Jeanette Schatz and Edna Hooper. Survivors include a sister, Celia Mackey of Mobile; nephew and buddy, Walter Mackey (Nancy); nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great, great-grandchildren. Mrs. Branch retired from civil service as a supervisor after 38 years of service in purchasing for the U.S. Air Force. She was an active member of a Mobile mystic society. Mrs. Branch was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph William Denmark and Lydia Bell Dueitt Denmark, and brothers, J.W. Denmark, Jr, Elvin Ray Denmark, Garner William Denmark, Richmond Denmark, and Lance Afton Denmark. She is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, James E. Branch, Jr.; children, Joe Booth (Jackie), Melanie Branch, Connie Hutchinson, Terry Lee Branch, and Jimmy Clements (Loretta); eight grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
