Marion Lewis Flowers-a native and lifelong resident of Mobile, Alabama died peacefully in her sleep on September 30, 2016. She will be remembered for her outgoing personality by all who knew her. She graduated from Murphy High School in 1949, Mrs. Flowers worked at Brookley Air Force Base. She retired from Teledyne Continental as a personal assistant to the plant manager after 41 years of faithful service. Mrs. Flowers was a faithful member of South Brookley United Methodist Church for many years during which time she served on various committees. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Joseph W. Flowers and her mother Beryl Wallace Lewis. She is survived by several cousins and dear friends. A special thanks to the caregivers at Springhill Senior Residence and Kindred Hospice. Funeral services will be held from Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Monday, October 3, 2016 at 12 noon. Visitation will start at 11 am. Interment will follow in Mobile Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Mildred M. Frase, a native of Long Street, LA and a longtime resident of Mobile, died on Thursday, September 29, 2016. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Frase, and her sons, Marion and Roger. She is survived by grandchildren, great grandchildren and other relatives. Troy Eugene ''Gene'' Shirley

Troy Eugene ''Gene'' Shirley went home to be with the Lord on September 27, 2016, at the age of 84. He was a lifelong resident of Mobile, AL. He was preceded in death by his parents, Troy and Edilda Katherine Shirley, his daughter, Peggy Joyce Shirley Hunter, and the love of his life, Maude Ellen Brown Shirley, whom he was faithfully devoted to for 52 years of years of marriage.

Gene's legacy to his family and friends was that he was a gentle, happy, humble and content man who never met a stranger. He had a beautiful smile and he liked to make people happy by doing card and magic tricks. He served in the National Guard and his lifetime profession was in Industrial Sales.

Throughout his life, he enjoyed playing the trumpet with his band. They performed at Mardi Gras balls and events, including, performing for a former governor. He loved all kinds of music and often you could hear him humming a tune. He blew the trumpet for many years, but when he was unable to continue playing, you would always hear a good story about his days of performing. Both of his sons, got the gift of gab and storytelling from their father. He was artistic and loved to pencil draw and take photography. One of his favorite pastimes was simply, taking long walks with his wife.

He is survived by two sons: Troy (Shelley Louise) Shirley, of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and Dale (Diane) Shirley, of Spanish Fort, Alabama. Five Grandchildren: Bobby Hunter, Joy (Dell) Benton, Brian (Jenny) Hunter, Sarah Frances Shirley and Seth Shirley. Six Great Grand children: Haley, Valarey, Craig, Hunter, Jordyn, and Brianna.

Betty Ann Sizemore August 15, 1933- September 26, 2016 A native of Graysville, GA and resident of Mobile, AL died on Monday, September 26, 2016 at the age of 83. Mrs. Sizemore was a Christian woman who was the anchor of her family. She was a member of Irvington Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. She also loved animals. She is survived by her husband, Jack A. Sizemore; four children, Riette (Garry) Wooten-Sprinkle, John (Teresa) Ford, Linda (Lee) Webb and Carol (Martin) Baker; seven grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren.

Harriett Ruth Pennington

pennington_harriett2016Harriett R. Scribner Pennington, a native of New Albany, Indiana (a city founded by her ancestors) and a resident of Mobile, Alabama for many years. Mrs. Pennington passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 24, 2016. An active member of Spring Hill Presbyterian Church where she worked with children as a church school teacher and was a previous Youth Choir Director. She was an active member of the Women Church and was named an Honorary Life Member of Spring Hill's Presbyterian Women. She was also an active longtime volunteer in the Auxiliary at the USA Medical Center; USA Knollwood Hospital; and served on the Alabama Hospital Association Auxiliary Board for several years. She is survived by her husband Richard Pennington, three daughters; Mary Anne (Joe) Givhan of Mobile, AL:, Pam (Phil) Taylor of Coppell, TX; Shelley (Steve) Baker of Montrose, AL; seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; sister in law, Pat Kreamer of Fairfax, VA and numerous nieces, nephews all of whom she considered like sisters and brothers. The family would like to express their deep appreciation to Dr. David H. MacRae and the other attending physicians; the caring professional caregivers at Providence Hospital; Mobile Nursing and Rehabilitation; and Kindred Healthcare for their excellent, compassionate care, extended to her while serving her health care needs. A private family interment will be held at Mobile Memorial Gardens and a Witness to the Resurrection memorial service will be held at Spring Hill Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at 11:00 AM followed by the family receiving friends in the Fellowship Hall. The family request that in lieu of flowers, that memorials be made to Spring Hill Presbyterian Church, The Salvation Army or a personal charity of choice.

April 11, 1918 - Sept. 21, 2016 Mrs. Elizabeth L. Burnett a native of Port Gibson, MS and a resident of Mobile died on Wednesday September 21, 2016 at her residence. She was preceded in death by her parents Felix I Mercer and Ethel Mercer, granddaughter Lou Burnett, and her husband Ira H. Burnett who died in Sept. of 1971. Mrs. Burnett is survived by her two sons Kenneth W. Burnett of Mobile and William R. Burnett of New Orleans, LA, two granddaughters, and two great granddaughters of New Orleans, LA. Funeral services will be held from the graveside on Wednesday October 5, 2016 at 11AM. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens.

Harvey Braxton Parker, a native of Greenville, AL and longtime resident of Grand Bay, AL, died Friday, September 23, 2016 at the age of 82. He will be sadly missed and forever in our hearts. He retired from Huntington Ingalls. He was preceded in death by his parents, Erby L. Parker and Lillie Greene Parker, and three brothers, Erby L., Jr., Kenneth and LeRoy L. Parker. He leaves to cherish his memories his daughter, Kathy Parker; his son, Tony Parker, both of Mobile, AL; his brothers, Douglas (Jo) Parker of Ocean Springs, MS; Tommy (Margaret) Parker of Peidmont, AL; his sisters, Judy Samples of Attalla, AL and Pam Lankford of Gadsden, AL; former wife and friend, Willie Lee Parker; nieces; nephews; other relatives; his church family of New Beginnings Church and special friends, Marti, Deb and Mike.
