Jerel Steven Jernigan was born August 2, 1949 in Mobile, Alabama. He died in his home August 28, 2018, in Theodore, Alabama. Steve was preceded in death by his father, Marvin Dixon Jernigan. He leaves behind his beloved mother, Cora Jernigan Nix of Ocean Springs, Mississippi; three sisters, Charlotte (Bill) Matheny from Long Beach, Mississippi, Rhonda Jernigan from Shelton, Washington, and Cynthia (Scott) Jefferies from Theodore, Alabama; six nephews, Luke Tyler, Oregon; Jacob Tyler, Honolulu, Hawaii; Ryan Lowery, Long Beach, Mississippi; Daniel Lowery, Saraland, Alabama, David Jefferies, Mountain Brook, AL, Steven Jefferies, Hoover, AL and one niece, Sarah Jacob, Olympia, Washington. He also had twelve grand nieces and nephews. Steve graduated from East Laurens High School, East Dublin Georgia. He served in the U.S. Army from 1969-1972. He was an ardent Alabama Crimson Tide fan and was rarely to be seen without a ‘Bama shirt or hound’s tooth hat. Steve enjoyed gardening while his passion was wine making. He made excellent wine from all kinds of fruit which he grew on his property. Steve was famous in his neighborhood for his annual wine-tasting parties and giving his wine away to those who enjoyed it. He will be sadly missed by all those who knew and loved him. Services will be held at 10am on Saturday, September 1, 2018 at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 6040 Three Notch Road, Mobile, Alabama.
The family would like to express their deepest thanks to Ms. Jean Napp, Steve’s neighbor and friend who faithfully looked after and cared for Steve in his time of need.
The family wishes donations to be made in Steve’s name to the Salvation Army in lieu of flowers.

Barbara Ann White

A Chapel service for Barbara Ann White will be held at 12:00pm on Tuesday, 09/04/2018 from Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, followed by a committal service at the grave site.

Mrs. Barbara Ann Foster White was born May 17, 1947 in Loxley, AL. She was called home on August 30, 2018 surrounded by her family at her home on Hollinger’s Island. She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude M. Foster and Voncile K. Foster; one daughter, Beverly A. Moody; a grandson, Daniel White and a great-grandson, Earl Allen “TJ” White, IV. Barbara leaves behind the following loved ones to forever cherish her memories: Husband, Earl Allen “Al” White, Sr.; her children, Tina (Justin) Gates, Sandi (Freddy) Todd, Stan (Tracy) White, Allen (Christina) White and Lucia (Jason) Harris; 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters; brothers; nieces; nephews; cousins; many other extended family members and a host of wonderful friends. She will be remembered for her loving heart and generous soul who befriended everyone she met. When she was not spending time with family, she enjoyed reading, crafting and traveling. Her love for flowers sparked “A Grandma’s Touch”, where she enjoyed making flower arrangements for family and neighborhood friends. She served in various ministries in her church. While her children were young, she volunteered as a Girl Scout Leader and at the local community center. Services for Barbara will be held on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at 12:00 Noon from the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until service time. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the children’s ministry of Christian Life Church or Pathway Church. Barbara’s grandsons will honor her as pallbearers. Entombment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

Linda Spencer

A Chapel service for Linda Spencer will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, 09/01/2018 from Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, followed by a committal service at the grave site.

Linda Hadley Spencer, age 77 passed away on Tuesday. A native of Atmore, AL, she was a longtime resident of Chickasaw and Mobile. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church. Mrs. Spencer was a legal secretary for 59 years assisting Robert Edington and Robert Denniston. She also owned Spencer House Catering for over 10 years. Her favorite activity was spending time with her husband, children and especially her 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, who all loved and cherisher their “MiMi”. She also enjoyed cooking, shopping and traveling. She is survived by her loving husband of 41 years, Bill Spencer; her daughter, Jeri (John) Webb; son, Ben (Emily) Coate; daughter, Ann (Frank) Cheatham; grandchildren, Ross (Carey) Webb, Sarah (Kyle) Beason, Caroline and Ethan Coate and Emma Cheatham and great grandchildren, Riley and Brody Webb and Anna Kate Beason as well as many other close friends and relatives. Funeral services will be held from Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Saturday, September 1, 2018 at 2pm. Visitation will start at 12 noon. Burial will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens.

Ronald Irby

Ronald R. Irby, 65 of Mobile, AL passed away on Monday, August 27, 2018. Family and friends knew him as “Rick or Ricky”. Rick played football in his younger years at B.C. Rain High School and then at Tulane. Through the years he has always kept his love of sports and the outdoors. Rick was happiest when spending time surrounded by family. When God wrote scriptures about what a man, a husband, a father, a Grandfather, and a friend should be he created Rick Irby. Rick was proceeded in death by his father Chester Roy Irby, his mother Dorothy Gray Shoultz Irby and his brother Chester Wayne (Cecilia) Irby.After a hard fought 18 years with Parkinson’s he leaves behind his wife of 43 years Nancy King Irby; two sister’s Peggy (Louie) Fisher and Deborah (Chuck) Harben; children Tessie (Sandy) Tillery and Ronnie (Jennifer) Irby and Yvonne (Matthew) Farley; 10 grandkids Tyler Belle, Emily, Andy, Allie, Cooper, Cohen, Chandler, Jordyn, Jaden, and Joshlynn; many nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins and friends.
Visitation for Rick will be held from 12-2 p.m. on Thursday, August 30, 2018 at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Three Knotch Rd. Funeral service will begin at 2p.m. in the chapel at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, with interment immediately following.

Warren Cornelius Sr.

Warren Ira Cornelius Sr (Dadaw), age 96 passed away at his home on August 26, 2018. He was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Marietta S. Cornelius. His wife of 65 years, Dorothy W. Cornelius, two brothers, Walter D. Cornelius & Earl L. Cornelius. Three sons - Warren I. (Ted) Cornelius Jr. , Earl L. Cornelius & Robert (Rob) Cornelius and one grandson Steve Walston. He leaves to cherish his memory one daughter, Mary C. Richardson (Joe), Walter David Cornelius and Charles Cornelius (Ranee'), 14 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and 3 great - great grandchildren. He served in the merchant marines and the US Army where he received an honorable medical discharge. He was an avid outdoors man with his love of hunting and fishing. He was the owner of Warren Sport Shop for over 40 years and worked along side his son Robert until his retirement. Visitation will be held at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral home on Thursday, August 30th from 5-7 pm. Funeral services are Friday August 31 at 10am.

Evelyn Autrey Grubbs, age 94, long-time resident of Mobile, AL, passed away Saturday, August 25, 2018.
She was preceded in death by her husband of forty-five years, John V. Grubbs, Jr.
Evelyn and John were charter members of Kingswood United Methodist Church.She is survived by her children, Charles E. Grubbs and John V. Grubbs III (Irene); granddaughters Tyler Katherine Drouet (Clifford) and Hartley Elise Nichols (Andrew); 5 great grandchildren Mally, Kennan, Trice, Cora, and Ford; sister Ruth Megginson; beloved and devoted niece Peggy Mann (Ron) who was like a daughter to Evelyn; sister-in-law Stella Jean Hopkins; and many nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, August 29, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. at Mobile Memorial Gardens.

Frances Floreine McMillian Foley, a native of Leaf, MS and longtime resident of Mon Luis Island, AL, died Saturday, August 25, 2018 at the age of 94. She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church; helped organize and was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary of American Legion Post 250; a member of Club 31; was formerly employed by Saad’s Medical; and was the Medical Records Librarian for University of South Alabama Medical Center for many years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hector McMillian and Elizabeth McRay McMillian; her husband, Patrick Henry Foley; her sister, Ethel McMillian New and her brother, Harold M. “Uncle Red” McMillian. Her survivors include her son, Frank L. (Lynn) Foley, Sr. of Mon Luis Island, AL; three grandchildren, Stephanie Foley (Brian) Hulon, Frank L. Foley, II and Mitchell (Melissa) Brabham; one great-grandchild, Lilly Hulon; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Friday, August 31, 2018 at 12:00 Noon from the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. Visitation will be Friday from 10:00 AM until service time. Rosary will be recited at 11:30 AM. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens.

Mavis Elizabeth Davis Banks
November 8, 1922- August 23, 2018

Mavis Elizabeth Davis Banks, a native of Quitman, Ms and longtime resident of Mobile, Al went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 23, 2018. She was the daughter of the late William Curtis and Annie Carr Davis and the spouse of the late Julian Herbert Banks. Preceding her in death also were her siblings, Lavon Davis, Jack Davis, Ben Davis, Dot Davis Smith, Joe Davis, Paul Davis, Charles Davis as well as her daughter in-law Sandra Boone Johnson.

She is survived by her three children Virgil W. Johnson, J.Donald Banks(Suzy) and Mary Ann Banks Lomenick(Tom) and her sister Maxine Davis Thead(Bob) She is also survived by her 7 grandchildren, Lisa Johnson Yancey, Lori Johnson Berry, Lee Kirkland Banks, Andrew Davis Banks, Ginger Banks Rollins, Lindy Lomenick Grissett, and Jay Christian Lomenick as well as her 11 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.

Mavis worked for the Mobile Infirmary as a nurse for over 25 years and was a member of Dauphin Way Baptist Church and a former member of Cottage Hill Baptist Church.

The family wishes to thank her caregivers Cleo White, Netta Simmons and Donna Taylor of Alabama Hospice Care for their love and support. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Dauphin Way Baptist Church.

Visitation will be held Saturday, August 25, 2018 at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home at 9:00 am followed by the service at 10:00 am. Burial in Mobile Memorial Gardens.

Linda Sue Wright

Sue Walley Wright, born to James "Doc" Walley and Lexie Blackledge Walley, on June 17, 1947, passed away on Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at the age of 71. She worked at The Fitting Room alteration shop for over 30 years before retiring in 2011. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and aunt, who was loved and adored by all that knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents. She leaves behind her husband, Bill Wright; her children, Kim Riley Milligan (Kenny) and Monty Riley (Shea); grandchildren, Justin Bennett (Justin), Kevin Wright, KJ Milligan, Tyler Milligan, Melina Riley, Lacy Riley, and Troy Cook; two great grandchildren, Joeana Cook and Troy Cook V; her siblings, Janice Goodwin, Janette Lovelace, and Jamie Walley (Marilyn); and a host of other relatives. The family would like to thank Dr. Dill and the staff of Covenant Care for the phenomenal job of caring for her for the last six months.
