Ivan Pershing Hart Jr., 74, of Mobile, Alabama, died Wednesday September 19, 2018 from complications of lung cancer. Ivan is the son of the late Ivan (Hart) Pershing Hart Sr., and Ernestine Sharp Hart. Ivan (Harty) is preceded in death by his loving wife of 28 years, Deanne Stein Hart. He is survived by his mother, Ernestine Hart and brothers, David Hart and George (Bucky and Carolyn) Smith, all of Mobile Alabama; his son Ivan Hart III (Barbara) of Lawrence, Kansas and his daughters, Kelly Hart (Calvin) of Atlanta, Georgia and Smoke the Cat of Mobile, Alabama. He is also survived by his two grandsons, Ethan Hart and Nashville Florian; A niece Heather Hart of Mobile, Alabama and three nephews, Michael Hart of Salt Lake City, Utah, Guy Winstead of Mandeville, Louisiana and Timothy Smith of Mobile, Alabama; a first cousin, Joann Franklin of Tuscaloosa, Alabama and her son Stephen Patterson of Birmingham, Alabama and his dear friend, Debbie Lindsay. Ivan (Harty) is a 1963 graduate of Murphy High School. While in high school, he was a member of the Phi Sigma Chi Fraternity and remained life long friends with many of its members. He started his career working on a tug boat in Mobile, and worked his way up to be a licensed chief engineer, which enabled him to travel throughout the world. He ended his career working in the New York Harbor for Mcallister Brothers and was there during the World Trade center attacks. He was later awarded a medal by the state of New York for transporting people safely away from the twin towers. Ivan (Harty) loved all things Mardi Gras and was an active in a mystic society for most of his adult life. He and his late wife Deanne, were also avid Nascar fans and enjoyed traveling to watch the races. He also loved working in his garage on his beloved vintage corvette. Ivan (Harty) spent the last years of his retirement continuing to enjoy the company of his family and friends and watching his two young grandsons grow and thrive. He continued his active involvement in Mardi Gras activities as well as The Friendly Son’s of St. Patrick. Another great joy in his life was his cat, Smoke who brought him immense pleasure. Visitation will be held at Radney Funeral Home from 5-7 on Friday, September 21st and funeral services will take place on Saturday, September 22nd at 10:00am, also at Radney Funeral Home.
