entranceA graveside  service for Charles Stephen Gresham will be held at 10:00am on Wednesday, 01/31/2018 at the cemetery.

Stephen Charles Gresham, affectionately known as “Pop”, “Mr. Steve”, “Gresh” or “Gresham” and “Uncle Penniehead”, passed away Thursday, January 25, 2018 at the age of 70. Steve retired from the United States Post Office after 39 years of service and also served in the US Naval Reserve. He was a devoted member of the Presbyterian Church USA, where he served faithfully as a Deacon, Elder and Sunday School Teacher for many years. Steve was a scholar of the bible and could quote passages for any situation. If you had an issue and needed bible guidance, the GO TO MAN was Steve. He knew his bible well and he lived his life from the bible. His faith in God kept him strong over the years, even after suffering many debilitating strokes. He was an avid runner in his early years and ran in many Mobile races until his health prohibited this activity. He was a resident of University Oaks, where he volunteered and led exercise classes, balloon volleyball and other activities for the last eight to ten years. His favorite pastime was watching Alabama football, listening to his radios and shouting “Roll Tide”. You could always find Steve with his TV on, his radio going and that transistor radio plugged up to his ears. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Young Gresham and Helen May Winn Gresham; and his brother, John Gresham. He is survived by his daughter, Courtney Reyes, her husband, Tom, and their children, Ozzi and Sequoia, of Maui, Hawaii; his son, John Pat Gresham, his wife, Chrissy, and their children, Cooper and Corra, of Theodore, AL; his brother, Jimmy Gresham, who was diligent in his care of Steve after his own retirement, and his wife, Missy, of Mobile, AL; his brother, Joe, who stayed the night with Steve as he transitioned to his heavenly home, and his wife, Patsy, of Dothan, AL; many nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends. Steve is also survived by his best friends of over 60 plus years, Buddy Lowell and his wife, Sandy, who has been Steve’s caregiver for over 20 years, a position she cherished. Suzy Lowell Gayle, her husband, Steve, and children, Maegan, Kaitlyn and Buddy Gayle enjoyed Steve’s companionship at all of their school activities the past 20 years, including ball games, which were Steve’s favorites. Robert Lowell and his wife, Cherokee, and their daughter, Abigail, enjoyed spending time with Steve at many family dinners and events. The Lowell Family will miss Steve’s companionship and his joy of saying “ROLL TIDE” every chance he got. He was a great and true friend. The family would like to thank University Oaks, First Light Home Care, Ameditsys and Covenant Care Hospice, Providence Hospital, Dr. Daniel Spriggs and Felicia Graf, NP, Palm Gardens and Gulf Coast Rehabilitation Centers and their staffs for the compassionate and loving care given Steve this past year. Steve was seen by many other healthcare individuals over the past years and we are also very thankful for their support and care. Funeral services for Steve will be held Sunday afternoon, January 28, 2017 at 3:00 PM from the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, with visitation Sunday from 2:00 PM until service time. The committal service will be held Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at 10:00 AM in Mobile Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, please consider giving a memorial gift to the Covenant Inpatient Hospice Center at Providence Hospital, 6801 Airport Boulevard, 11th Floor, Mobile, AL 36685. Everyone at Covenant Care made Steve’s last few days a lovely and peaceful time. ROLL TIDE, STEVE. YOU ARE LOVED AND YOU WILL BE MISSED BY ALL OF US.
