A Church service for Joyce Hunter will be held at 9:00am on Saturday, 12/30/2017 from Westminister Presbyterian Church, followed by a committal service at the grave site.

Joyce Aline Havard Hunter of Mobile died on Thursday, December 28 at the age of 87. Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, William "Bill" and her son, Christopher. She is survived by her four children Kymberlie Carroll (James), Randolph Hunter (Sarah), Edward Hunter (Tracy), and Jeffrey Hunter, her nine grandchildren Brad, Kristin, Blake (Paige), Aimee, Katherine (Adam), Ashton, William "Will", Grace, and John, and her two great grandchildren, Sloane and Stella.
Joyce was born in George County, Mississippi in 1930 to Mattie Dorothy Goff Havard and Charles Thomas Havard. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics from Mississippi Southern College in 1953 and a Masters from South Alabama in 1975. Joyce and Bill fell in love in high school. After Bill returned from the Korean War and they finished college, they married and moved to Mobile; there they raised a family and became fixtures in the Springhill community. Joyce loved working with children and had long career in education, as a teacher and a principal. During her tenure as principal at Maryvale school, the school was recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School (1993-1994) and she was recognized as a National Distinguished Principal (1994). She was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa honorary teaching organization and serviced as chapter president. After her retirement in 1998, she continued to work with children at her church through Sunday school, youth group, and vacation bible school. Joyce was an avid gardener and spent the last few years growing orchids, succulents, and tropicals on her porch. She loved cooking for her family and friends, writing poetry, playing bridge, reading, enjoying the sunlight on her porch, and staying fit with regular walks through Springhill.
The visitation will be Friday, December 29 from 4 to 7pm at Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street. The funeral will be at Westminster Presbyterian Church on Saturday, December 30, at 9 am, followed by a graveside service at Mobile Memorial Gardens at 11 am, and a reception at Westminster at 12 pm.
Joyce's faith was an important part of her life and she was an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church for many years, was an elder, and served as the Clerk of Session.

A Graveside service for Betty Spence will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, 12/29/2017 from Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, followed by a committal service at the grave site.

Betty Smith Spence, a lifelong resident of Mobile, Alabama, went home to be with her Lord on December 23, 2017 at the age of 83. She was preceded in death by her husband, Pete Spence, and her parents, Raymond and Zettie Smith. She is survived by her son, Chuck Spence, brothers Raymond Smith, and Donald Ray Smith & wife, Marilyn, her sisters-in-law, Roxie Bunch, Janice Cochran (Frank), Jeanette Bauchman (Mike), Willene Spence, Lois Spence-Manderson, Barbara Spence, mother-in-law, Inez Spence, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Betty was a woman of faith and love. Her relationship with God was paramount to everything else in her life. Her walk with God never wavered from the time she accepted Christ as her Savior as a little child until the day she departed this earth to be with Him for eternity. She was a faithful and active member of Forest Hill Church of God where she held various leadership roles over the years.
In addition to being a loving wife, mother, and sister, Betty was an accomplished writer with a love for poetry. At age 39, she attended the University of South Alabama and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a concentration in creative writing.
She has won numerous awards for her photography, creative writing, poetry, and music composition. She is a former columnist and correspondent for the Press-Register and a devotional writer for Assembly of God and Church of God publications. She has had her works published in several print and on-line journals as well as several self-published books.
In 1988, she was the recipient of the Gayfer’s Career Club, Outstanding Career Woman Award. In 1990, she received a resolution of commendation for outstanding professional achievement and community service by the State of Alabama House of Representatives. In 2011 at the Alabama State Poetry Association Conference at the University of Montevallo, she won first place in the Alabama State Poetry Society Fall Contest with the entry “These Are Mine;” second place in the Mississippi State Poetry Society-sponsored Poet Laureate category with “Needle Delights;” and honorable mention in the ASPS contest for “The Paper Folder.”
She belongs or has belonged to several writers’ organizations, including National League of American Pen Women, Inc., Alabama Writers’ Conclave, the Pensters, Christian Writer’s league, Alabama State Poetry Society, Florida Poetry Society, and the Huntsville Literary Society. She co-founded the Greenleaf Writers’ Group. Her latest books, “Daystar” and “Traces” are considered by many to be her masterpieces.

Michael Douglas Duke – a 68 year-old native of Birmingham, Alabama and longtime resident of Saraland passed away on Saturday, December 23, 2017. Mr. Duke founded, owned, and operated Duke Instrument Service in Saraland for the past 37 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a charter member of Shelton Beach Road Baptist Church. Mr. Duke was an avid outdoorsman and also loved to cook. He will always be remembered as a devoted husband and father who had a contagious sense of humor. Mr. Duke was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas M. and Mary Ella Duke. He is survived by his beloved wife of 34 years, Deborah Duke; children, Thomas Duke (Bridget Wells), Tanya Allen (Chad), Jeanifer Long (Daniel), and Michael Gaffney (Tammy); seven grandchildren, Tyler (Emily), Trent, Trace, Bryce, Mya, Maggie, and Chelsea; great-grandchildren, Aric and Parker; his beloved four-legged companion… Bowzer; dedicated employees, plus a multitude of relatives and friends. Phyllis Scott Campbell gained her wings on December 12, 2017 in Mobile AL. She was a native resident of Talladega, AL. She was preceded in death by her husband, James David Campbell, and her parents, AJ and Jean Scott. She leaves behind three daughters, Tracey Bartson (Robbie), Davenna Carwie (Tom) and Dreama Childress (Terrell) and her grandchildren, Daniel,Trenton, Andrew, Gauge and Georgia. Marilyn Robertson Wigger Phelps, a native of Gallion, AL and longtime resident of Mobile, AL, died Sunday, December 24, 2017 at the age of 69. Marilyn grew up in Gallion and Greensboro, AL and loved living the “country Life”. Her first pet was a lamb and, during her younger years, her main entertainment was riding horses and barrel racing. Her recent favorite pastime was playing dominoes and attending bible study at the Connie Hudson senior community center. She and her husband enjoyed traveling around the United States. She loved to have holiday parties of any kind! Family and friends looked forward to her Halloween and Christmas get-togethers each year. She graduated from Greensboro High School and attended college in Livingston, AL. She taught pre-school (4-year-olds) for 27 years and was an active member of Kingwood United Methodist Church for over 30 years. She brought a smile to the faces of everyone she met. Her biggest joy was making others happy, sharing all her love and baking for any occasion. Her specialty was pecan and pumpkin pies. She was a wonderful woman of our Lord and Savior. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, William “Billy” Robertson and Louise Monroe Robertson Belcher, and her first husband and father of her two children, David I. Wigger. Her survivors include her husband, Donald G. Phelps; two children, David R. (Robby) Wigger and Jessica (Frank) Killian; step-daughter, Tina (Dave) Blackwell; grandsons, Rylan, Nathaniel and Alex; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 28, 2017 at 12:00 Noon from the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. A Church service for Jeanette Wiggins will be held at 12:00pm on Wednesday, 12/27/2017 from Luke 4:18 Fellowship Church, followed by a committal service at the grave site.

Jeanette Ward Wiggins went to be with the Lord on December 24, 2017. She was born April 8, 1944. She was an exceptional wife and mother who loved the Lord and had a true servants heart. No matter what she faced, you always saw Jesus love and peace in her everything she did. She always gave selflessly to others and set a true example of Christ's love to all who knew her. She is survived by her husband, Terry; daughters, Terra Parnell (Mel) and Shannon Wiggins; grandchildren Madison, Mason and Matthew Parnell; and many special friends and family. She was especially thankful for her two caregivers that we call our angels, Killy Hernandez and Ursula Butler.
The family will receive friends at the Luke 4:18 Fellowship on Wednesday December 27, 2017 at 10;00 AM until funeral service time at 12:00 Noon.

Shirley Trucks Helton, passed away on Wednesday, December 20, 2017. Shirley was born in Birmingham on Feb. 22, 2932. She moved to Mobile when she was 9 years old. She became a homemaker. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Earl L. Helton and daughter, Deborah Jean Johnson. Shirley is survived by her daughter, Barbara (George) Tatlas of Jacksonville, FL, Pam (Arther) Coel of Waynesboro, MS and Maxine (tony) Wilkins of Mobile and other relatives. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at 12 noon, at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 4 to 7 pm, at the funeral home.
