The eldest son of Willard E. and Voila F. McDonald, Charles McDonald passed away peacefully at his home, February 14, 2019 in Mobile, Alabama.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Mason and great grandson Benjamin Chadwick.
Charles was born in Springfield, Missouri and spent his childhood in the Sumner, Missouri community where he lived with his parents and extended family. He and his brothers and parents later moved to Brookfield, Missouri where he attended high school.
After graduation Charles enlisted in the US Air Force where he was a flying crew chief on C-47 aircraft. Stationed at Tachikawa Air Force Base near Tokyo, Japan, he flew regular missions in support of forces during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged and returned to Missouri.
Upon his return, he married Ramona Bethards of Chillicothe, Missouri in 1954. They had two sons, Rodney and Alan. After a few years in Chillicothe, he went to work in the military aircraft maintenance industry. His employment took him and his young family from coast to coast and border to border across the US. After a number of years of moving around the country, he settled in Mobile to work in an aircraft maintenance facility.
He left the aircraft industry and purchased the distribution rights to the Mobile Press-Register in a west Mobile district. He retired from that business in 1997.
Charles was active in the Masonic fraternity, rising to statewide office in a number of organizations. He was a Past Master of Howard E. Palmes Lodge #917 F&AM in Mobile.
His memory is cherished by his wife, Ramona and his family including, his sons Rodney (Melissa) McDonald, Alan (Deborah) McDonald. Grandchildren Sarah (Trey) Chadwick, Emily (Mark) Christian, John McDonald, Kelley (Chad) Ryals and Ashely (Chris) Humpal. Great grandchildren William, Caroline and Mason Chadwick; Maggie, Grady and Quinn Christian; Jackson and Wyatt Humpal. He is also survived by his brother Duane (Jerri) McDonald of Memphis, Missouri. Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 18, 2019 at 12 noon from Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. Visitation will start at 11 am Monday. Burial will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens.

A chapel service will be held at 12pm on Monday, 02/18/2019 from Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, followed by a committal service at the grave site.
