Ms. Gibson was born August 17, 1934, in Souwilpa, AL, to Herman and Letha Mae Giles. She passed away September 10, 2026, in Butler, AL. Devon was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, whose gentle elegance and sweet spirit guided our family with grace. Her faith was a beacon, leading her family to Jesus through her prayers and example. Her love for life shone brightly in her many passions: crafting exquisite cakes and cookies, mastering southern classics in the kitchen, and sewing everything from delicate dresses to baby bedding. Her talent extended to crocheting thousands of beautiful ornaments, each adorning every inch of her Christmas tree, while her Bible was her daily companion, read without fail. Her quiet, steadfast faith was as powerful as it was profound, moving mountains with its strength. She embodied Christian virtues, expressing love through her remarkable hospitality. Whether hosting family dinners, preparing meals for those hurting or in need, or contributing to church potlucks, she understood the deep connections forged over shared meals. Though she appeared quiet and unassuming, she was an indomitable force of nature. She navigated life’s triumphs and sorrows with resilience, grace, and a knowing smile, leaving an indelible mark on our hearts. She is survived by her sons, Sammy Y. Gibson (Cindy) and Donald R. Gibson (Diana); grandchildren, Rachel Gibson Hannah, L. Benjamin Hurst (Stacey), James T. Gibson (Jennie), and D. Matthew Gibson (Jennah); great grandchildren, Greyson Hurst, Caroline Hannah, Charlie Hannah, Sam Allen Hannah, James Henry Gibson, Evans Gibson, Owen Gibson, Dominic Gibson, and Mia Gibson; brother, Ronnie Giles; sisters, Imogene Beard, Grace Pilot, Alice Higgins (Jerry), and Patsy Cotten (Buddy); and brother-in-law, Michael Shepherd. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Linda Kay Gibson Hurst; father, James Herman Giles; mother, Leatha Mae Doggett Giles; brothers, Jim Giles and Leon Giles; and sisters, Glendine McCarty and Sybil Shepherd. Serving as pallbearers will be Ben Hurst, James Gibson, Matt Gibson, Greyson Hurst, Charlie Hannah, and Sam Allen Hannah. Devon’s family would like to express a special thanks to her caregivers and Legacy Hospice for their excellent care.
