1934-2019

A native of Chattahoochee, FL and resident of Mobile, AL died on Monday, February 11, 2019 at the age of 84. Mr. Andrews retired in December of 1989 at the age of 55 after nearly 38 years with the Army Corps of Engineers as a Cost Estimator. Harold & Ovaline Andrews and Up the Creek, “Dedicated to the presentation of acoustic music.” He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel LaFayette Andrews, I and Ada Courtney Andrews (affectionately known to all as Nana); a son, Daniel LaFayette Andrews, II; siblings, Jim, Delbert, WL, Herschel and Betty Hazel. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ovaline Baxter Andrews; brother, Donald (Janie) Andrews; children, Mark Alan (Dawn) Andrews, Richard Perry (Nancy) Andrews, Karen Andrews (Randy) Davis; grandchildren, April, Alan, Christopher, Shay (Jay), Daniel (Jessica), Courtney, Cody Jessie) and Clinton (Meghan); nine great grandchildren and one more on the way. He always said “all grandchildren are great!” Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, February 16, 2019 at 2:00 PM from the Chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 12:00 Noon. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Daniel LaFayette Andrews, III, Quinton Cody Goodwin, Clinton Andrew Goodwin, Wayne Balentine, Scott Balzer and Mark Alan Andrews, Jr. To know Harold was to love him, even when he was being a smart alec, which he loved being. He made us all laugh with his quick intelligent wit. Everyone probably has at least one of his sayings as a cherished memory. To his fans he was an excellent bluegrass musician, although he always thought he needed to do better and practice more. To his friends he was steady, genuine and true. To his family…. he was everything.

A chapel service will be held at 2pm on Saturday, 02/14/2019 from Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, followed by a committal service at the grave site.
