John Joseph Sklopan, a native of Pittsburgh, PA and longtime resident of Mobile, AL, died Saturday, September 21, 2019 at the age of 79. John attended the University of Southern Mississippi where he played football; was a parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Church for 54 years and an educator for 36 years in the Mobile County Public School System, retiring as Principal of Baker High School in 2002. He was preceded in death by his parents, William John Sklopan and Helen Evelyn Skalniak Sklopan. His survivors include his wife of 54 years, Maxine Lane Sklopan; son, Dean (Marla) Sklopan; daughter, Dana Sklopan Tillman; grandchildren, Leah Elizabeth Lucky, Cole Joseph Lucky and John William Sklopan; his sister, Helen Sklopan Walsh; Harold, Ann and Lane (Kristi) Wilson, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 26, 2019 at 12:00 Noon from the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 10:00 AM until service time. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens.
