Joseph Warren Mathews, age 92, resident of Mobile, AL, was born on July 1st, 1934 in Allen, AL and passed on July 30, 2026. He was a 1951 graduate of Murphy High School and received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Alabama in 1959. He served in the Engineer Corp of the U.S. Army from 1953 - 1956. He owned Great South Machine Tool Co., Inc. providing metal-working machinery to businesses world-wide. Joe was a longtime member of Dauphin Way United Methodist Church and served as President of Sales and Marketing International. Joe loved gardening and tending his yard, growing roses and flowers and planting wildflowers to beautify his neighborhood. He also had a huge garden where he grew all the vegetables that he and Marlene canned and froze to eat year-round. He was a master at grilling and loved to entertain his family on Saturday nights with delicious meals. Joe is preceded in death by his mother, Eula Duke Mathews and his father, Robert Curtis Mathews, his sister Evelyn Harrigan and a brother Layton Mathews. He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Marlene Dyche Mathews; his children: Terri Kearns (Hoagy), and Karen Mathews, both of Mobile; Susan Mathews of Los Angeles, Joseph Braxton Mathews of Houston; a brother Charles Mathews (Judy) of Orlando; 2 grandsons: Benjamin Numa Kearns and Samuel Mathews Kearns, 1 great-grandson Hartwell Numa Kearns, all of Mobile.
