Norman James Walton, Jr. – Age 73 died February 12, 2019, after a brief illness surrounded by family and friends. He was born on August 3, 1945, in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. He is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Dusty Wharton Walton. He was predeceased in death by his parents, Mary Godfrey Walton, and Norman James Walton, Sr., his brother Thomas E. Walton, and his son Andrew Blair Walton. He is survived by his sons, Dr. Christopher James Walton (Holly), and Jason Patrick Walton (Amy), his brothers, John G. Walton (Kathy), Charles R. Walton (Amy), Willian R. Walton (Nancy), his sister, Maureen Walton Russum, four beloved grandchildren, Austin Patrick Walton, Camille Louise Walton, Elle Rylan Walton, and Pierce Blair Walton, and several nieces and nephews. Norman was a graduate of University Military School, Class of 1963. He graduated from the University of Alabama in 1968, where he was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity. He was the third generation to serve in the family construction business, J.S. Walton & Co., Inc., where he worked with his brothers Johnny and Willie, and his son Blair, for over 40 years. Norman was deeply involved in the construction industry and was committed to the promotion of the roadbuilding industry in Alabama and across the nation. He was President of the Mobile County and State of Alabama Roadbuilders Associations, President of the Mobile and State of Alabama Associated General Contractors, National Highway Chairman and National Treasurer of the Associated General Contractors of America, and a Life Governor of the Associated General Contractors of America. He was also an Emeritus Advisor of the Associated General Contractors of America Education and Research Foundation, which awarded scholarships to aspiring engineering students. Norman also had a love for Alabama football and was a member of the President’s Cabinet at the University of Alabama, and President of the Mobile Chapter of the Red Elephant Club. Throughout his life, Norman enjoyed the respect and admiration of his peers and colleagues. He will be remembered for always helping those around him, and for always finding happiness in the success of others. One of his greatest joys was watching his sons and grandchildren participate in various sporting events. He had an enormous love for his grandchildren and will be looking down on them and always rooting for their success. Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 16th, in the Marian Center of St. Ignatius Catholic Church from 9 a.m until 11 a.m., with Mass of Christian Burial to follow. Private interment to follow at Mobile Memorial Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to the Andrew Blair Walton Memorial Scholarship Fund, 2300 Wilson Boulevard, Suite 300, Arlington, VA 22201. Serving as pallbearers are John Walton, Charles Walton, William Walton, Taylor Walton, Andy Wharton, Jr., Lion Crowe, Philip Parker and Luke Walton.

A private service will be held at Saturday, 02/16/2019 at the grave site.
