Virginia Mae Carl, 91
Virginia was born on May 11, 1926 in Talladega, AL. She now rests in heavenly peace with her LORD having passed peacefully on the morning of May 12, 2017. Visitation will be held at Memorial Gardens on Three Notch Road in Mobile, AL on Sunday evening 6-8 PM, and funeral services will begin in the chapel Monday at 10 AM. Virginia was an accomplished woman as mother, wife and homemaker as well as being the 1st female seated on the Civil Service Board in Sylacauga, AL, an area gubernatorial campaign manager in the ‘60s, business owner in 3 cities in Alabama, and an accomplished and published author. She was a long time active member of Life Church in Mobile, and actively shared her faith, prayers and heavenly guidance with her family and all those in her life. She was predeceased by her husband, Jerry L Carl, Sr., and brothers Bob, Richard and Robert and (1) sister Ruby. She is survived by children Nancy Summer (Dan), Sherry Carl English, Rhonda Pierce (Frank), and Jerry Carl (Tina), (3) sisters Ruth, Evelyn, and Mary Jo, (1) brother Joe, (11) grandchildren, and (15) Great Grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
Virginia touched many lives and left an indelible impression of her faith on each and every one. She would want everyone she touched to know how dear they were to her and how much she appreciated their friendship, their time, and their prayers, especially those who were her care givers in her final days. In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be made to Life Church of Mobile or The Dementia Society of America.

Leonard Lee Law Sr. March 5, 1926- January 31, 2017 A native of Chickasaw, AL and resident of Mobile, AL died on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at the age of 90. Mr. Law was an avid outdoorsman and Alabama Fan. He was a charter member of Independent Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by a son, Leonard ''Len'' Law Jr. He is survived by his children, Bill (Janis) Law, Eleanor Law and Jimmy (Angela) Law; eight grandchildren, Matthew, Orrin, Morgan, Ande', Alex, Tiffany, Cameron and Christopher; nine great grandchildren. Visitation will be held from Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Saturday, February 4, 2017 from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM followed by Funeral Services in the Chapel.

Mary Catherine Blackmon Lee, remembered by family and friends for her kind and loving spirit, passed away at home Saturday at age 91. Mrs. Lee was a Mobile native and member of Cottage Hill Baptist Church. She worked as office manager for her first husband's companies, Blackmon Real Estate & Insurance, and Model Homes of Mobile and Pascagoula. She also served for many years as an administrative assistant at the University of South Alabama. She was known for her gentle smile, her love of God, the love she showed her husband and children, and the kindness she offered all those who crossed her path. Her roast, gravy and pound cakes were unsurpassed. She had the ability to grow any plant, and loved to paint and write.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Garvin Franklin Blackmon Sr.; parents Herbert William Sindorf and Catherine Elsie Godfrey; sister Lois Kroner and husband Carl Kroner, and her beautiful daughter, Patricia Katherine Blackmon. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Max Lee; children Linda (Art) Eidman, Garvin F. Blackmon Jr., Joe (Cyndi) Blackmon; stepdaughters Anita Lee and Jan (Scott) Pettersen; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Visitation begins on January 11, 2017 at 9 a.m. at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home with services at 10 a.m., followed by burial. Cottage Hill Baptist Church will host a lunch reception.

John Mark ''Doc'' Brown, Sr. went to be with the Lord on January 5, 2017 at the age of 88 with his family by his side. Doc's journey on this earth began on December 11, 1928. He was born in Opp, Alabama to Warren Hathaway Brown, I, and Minnie Lou Barnes Brown, who preceded him in death. He is also preceded in death by two brothers, Warren Hathaway Brown, II, and Joe Jim Brown, and one sister, Mary Beth Brown Clark. He is survived by three siblings: David Brown (Eirleen), Gratia Brown Steggall (John), and Janie Brown Buck (Dr. William P.) His family settled on a 400-acre farm outside of Andalusia, AL on Brown's Pond. Doc loved to fish and hunt. He also cultivated a love of flowers from his mother. He was always gardening. After graduating from Pleasant Home High School, Doc enlisted in the United States Army at the age of seventeen, and was sent to the Occupational Division in Japan. After returning to the States, he started college at Auburn University, and was in the National Guard. He was soon deployed to the Korean War where he served as a sergeant in the Artillery Division for thirteen months. After returning to the States, Doc returned to college where he completed his degree in horticulture in 1954. Doc was married to Mary Zulene Cross on September 3, 1951. They settled in Mobile, AL where Doc began working at Semmes Nursery. He started work at Bellingrath Gardens and Home in 1956 as the Assistant Landscape Engineer and became Landscape Engineer in 1964. In 1974 he became the General Manager. Doc retired from Bellingrath Gardens in 1993, after 38 years of dedicated service, and continued to grow beautiful plants and gardens until his death. He leaves his loving memories to be cherished by his wife of 65 years, Mary, his three children, Marissa Brown Womack (Victor), John Mark Brown, Jr., and Patricia Brown Ready (Almon ''JR''), nine grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren, along with many other loving family members and friends.
