Velma Loyce Kalter, 89, of Mobile. Alabama passed away Friday, July 24, 2026. Born on May 2, 1937, in Richton, Mississippi to Enoch Edward and Myra Idiom Walley, she graduated Richton High School and Jones County Junior College. After college, she moved to Mobile and worked as an executive assistant at Turner Supply Company. She left the work force to raise a family but later returned to work for the Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Service until her retirement in 1999. She was preceded in death by her parents, Enoch Edward McGee, Sr. and Myra W. McGee, her brothers Edward E. McGee, and Clyde C. McGee, and her twin sister, Thelma M. Bowen. She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Anthony Donel Kalter and her daughter, Donna K. Dix and her husband, David Dix of Mobile, Alabama, two grandchildren, Dana Alexandria Kirkland and her fiancé, Noah Levinson of Denver Colorado, and Anthony Joel Frederick of Ft. Walton Beach, Florida. Velma enjoyed celebrating not only special days and holidays, but ordinary days with family and would cook everyone's favorite dish, from country vegetables to delicious desserts. She loved bird watching, both the native and migratory birds frequenting her feeders, to the beautiful hummingbirds visiting her flower beds. She particularly loved watching the ospreys at Wolf Bay in Baldwin County Alabama nest and raise their young. When her grandchildren were born, first Allie then AJ, she became her grandchildren's biggest cheerleader. Birthdays or sporting events, school plays or graduations, she showed her unconditional support and encouragement for them. Her loving hugs and unwavering belief in her grandchildren's potential will be profoundly missed.
