Sandra Pope Atkins, devoted wife, mother and grandmother, passed away Sunday, September 15, 2019 at the age of 69, surrounded by her loving family. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Jane Erin Atkins; her sister, Betty Dorgan and her father, Sanders Pope. Sandra was born January 8, 1950 to Sanders & Linda Short Pope in Jasper, AL. She married the love of her life, Jerome Atkins, in April 1972 and together they raised a family. Sandra was a long time resident of Mobile, AL and a revered member of the Dauphin Island, AL community where she worked at the Conservation Department and raised her children and grandchildren for over 25 years. Sandra was the matriarch of her ever-growing family and mother to anyone who needed her. Her unwavering kindness and love was felt by all. She is survived by her mother, Lindbergh “Linda” Pope; her husband, Jerome E. Atkins, Sr.; their children, Jerome E. Atkins, Jr., Robert Atkins, Joshua (Cutter) Atkins, his wife Grace Atkins; her grandchildren, Kyle, Cecilia, Oliver, Jeremy, Ginger and Jaycee; her sister, Sheila Pope; her nieces, Monica and Seren and great-niece, Samara; other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 18, 2019 at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home from 12 Noon until 2 PM with a funeral service immediately following at 2 PM from the funeral home chapel. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Cancer research.

A chapel service will be held at 12pm on Wednesday, 09/18/2019 from Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, followed by a committal service at the grave site.
