Mobile Memorial Gardens is a Unique Cemetery

Many, if not most, large cemeteries are investor-owned profit oriented commercial endeavors. Regardless of how they are promoted, their ultimate driving force is generating income that can be divided among owners, often times an out of town corporation. Mobile Memorial Gardens is different. It is an independent, not for profit (501 c13) organization that is almost a one of a kind in Alabama.

The income received from the sale of its offerings is used for the benefit of the ones that use the cemetery – YOU – because there are no owners. All of its income is used to operate, maintain, and improve the cemetery.

The “Gardens” is based on the memorial park cemetery concept and was founded in 1953 by a group of distinctively visionary business people led by Mr. Charles Miller. It is governed by a board of trustees made up of prominent business persons for the benefit of the owners of burial rights at the cemetery. It is not affiliated with any funeral home, church, religious sect, or government agency. Its two hundred-plus acres of developed and undeveloped landscape is located between Three Notch Road and Nevius Road in central Mobile county near Hillcrest Road. Approximately one hundred twenty acres have been developed for interment sites, including both in-ground options and modern mausoleum choices with accommodations for both traditional entombment plus cremation inurnment.
