Katie Viola Curry Tyson, 87, of Mobile, AL passed away Wednesday, November, 27, 2019. Katie was born in Frankville, AL, March 1, 1932. She was the daughter of the late James Callaway Curry, Sr. and Velma Janice Giles Curry. She was preceded in death by her husband of 25 years, Burrell Franklin Tyson; her son, Johnny Lee Tyson; 3 sisters, Annie Ruth Curry, Aline Dew and Helen Ammons; 3 brothers, George William Curry, John Harvey Curry and James Callaway “JC” Curry; Jr. and her daughter-in-law, Ginger Norton Tyson. Katie is survived by 4 sons, Robert Franklin (Karen) Tyson, Michael David Tyson, Jeffrey Lane (Fran) Tyson and Richard Earnest (Charlene) Tyson; 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; 1 sister, Maria Curry Anderson and 1 brother, Lewis Curry. Katie loved Jesus and knew Him as her personal Lord and Savior. Out of this love for Him, she taught her sons about Him. She dearly loved her boys, their wives, whom she always considered daughters, never daughters-in-law and of course she adored all of her grandchildren. She took pride in crocheting blankets for each one and always kept candy for any little hands that would come to visit. She loved playing Skipbo with Granny Flora, which, many times, led to heated debates. Katie spoke often of her family, sisters, and brothers, and had many, many stories to tell of her life. Funeral services, officiated by Pastor Keith Currie, will be held Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at 12:00 Noon from the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday morning from 10:00 AM until service. Interment will follow in Mobile Memorial Gardens.
