Patricia (Trish) Ann Showers Herrington, loving wife of Hugh Herrington and devoted mother of three children, passed away at the age of 73, on Monday, March 30th, 2020. She was surrounded with love as she peacefully began her journey, walking with God holding her hand. Patricia was born on March 16, 1947, in Mobile, AL, to Raymond and Annie (Atkinson) Showers. She graduated from Murphy High School in 1965and received her degree in elementary education from Mobile College in 1969.She practiced as a successful and respected elementary school teacher for the Mobile County School System for 25 years, educating students at Nelson Adams Middle School. Patricia was loved and respected by family and friends. She never met a stranger, striking up conversations with anyone she had the pleasure of meeting. She loved traveling with her family, experiencing many adventures that made memorable stories. She loved music and you would frequently see her smiling, clapping her hands and singing loudly to songs on the radio as she was driving down the road. "Born and raised" in First Baptist Church of Mobile, she was a longstanding and very active member, participating in the church choir, Meals on Wheels, WMU, and many other charitable endeavors. You could frequently hear her loud" Amen!" at the end of good hymns and sermons! Patricia is survived by her husband of over 50 years, with whom she traveled all over the world, Hugh Edward Herrington, Sr., daughter Terri Herrington, sons Edward (Annette) and Albert (Nita) Herrington, grandchildren Jesse McLeod, Evelyn, Amelia, Natalie and Lee Herrington, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents Raymond and Annie Showers and sister, Nell Pethtel. A graveside service for Patricia will occur Thursday, April 2, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. at Mobile Memorial Gardens, 5956 Three Notch Rd Mobile, Alabama 36619, followed by interment. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to 1st Baptist Church Mobile 806 Government St Mobile, Alabama 36602, checks payable to 1st Baptist Church Mobile Benevolence Fund.
