Almer Fleming - Mobile Memorial Gardens

Almer Fleming

1952-2020
Doug was born in Rulevile, Mississippi to Karl and Helen Peeples Fleming, He left us unexpectedly and far too soon at age 67. After serving his country in the US Air Force, Doug married the love of his life and his very best friend, Sandra, and raised five amazing children. His career at USA Medical Center as Associate Director of Security, was not only rewarding but a place where a lifetime of friends and memories were made. He was a true outdoorsman, whose love of the woods, hunting, fishing and his guns, brought him so much joy. He made us laugh daily with his crazy antics and interesting wardrobe choices. He was eccentric, a little crazy in the best kind of way, and as we are now realizing, the very heart of our family. The void we feel in his loss is sweet with memories and laughter, but a tremendous loss none the less. If he loved you, it was with his whole heart and soul, no questions asked. He was pre-deceased by his Father, Karl Wayne Fleming, his Mother Helen Peeples Fleming and his big brother Sammy Wayne Fleming, He is survived by the person he loved the most on this earth, Sandra Duncan Fleming, They were married for most of 47 years. (If you are family, you laughingly will know what this means). They raised five amazing human beings, and were abundantly blessed with nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He leaves his sons and daughters: Tammy (Daryl) Dutrow, Shannon Orso, Pamela (George) Lattof, Stephen Orso, Randall (Lisa) Orso and Stephanie (Jody) Pate. If you ask anyone of them, they will tell you that they were his favorite child. Children brought Doug great joy. Nieces and nephews, grandkids and great grandkids, the children of friends or the children of neighbors, they all loved him, and they all learned something from him. His precious grandchildren: Michael Downey, Todd Peregoy, Brittany Sims, Bethany Arcement, Eddie Fisk, Aaron Orso, Alyssa Orso, Miranda Orso and Jordan Orso. They will all remember how he made them laugh, and the life lessons he taught them. He was also blessed with nine great grandchildren. Doug had a little sister, Karla (Jimmy) Coumanis that worshipped him her entire life. He was her protector, her hero, and in the end, even her best neighbor. He had two nieces, Selena (Chris) Cox and Katie Drew who literally, thought he hung the moon. He was always there for them with a laugh, a big old hug, a heart of pure gold and a good cold beer. Doug had many friends, but one was his true partner in crime, Tony Pitt. For over 50 years, they hunted a lot, fished a lot, drank a lot, and got into all kinds of mischief together. They were more than friends, they were brothers. Doug had one other constant companion and love in his life, his faithful companion, Bentley. Doug, we promise to take good care of him for you. We’ll walk him in the woods as you did, but none of us will ever measure up to you in his eyes. We can’t say goodbye. It would hurt too much. We’ll just tell you how much we loved you, how much we will miss you and let you know that there is not a one of us who is not a better person because of you. We love you forever. Graveside services and interment are scheduled for Monday, June 22, 2020 at 2:00 PM in Mobile Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 1-2 PM at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home.
