Carmen Lavelle Tanner Hamilton, age 101, a native of Harleston, Mississippi and resident of Mobile, AL, passed away Monday, June 21, 2021. Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements. She attended Yerby School, Barton Jr. High School, and Murphy High School, graduating in 1937, and Perkinston Junior College. The simplest pleasures brought great joy to Carmen. She loved spending time in the kitchen, cooking delicious meals for her family. She loved it when her family and friends would stop by for a bite to eat or a cup of coffee. Carmen enjoyed reminiscing about her childhood and years as a young adult. She lovingly sewed many outfits and costumes for her family over the years. Carmen loved birds, especially cardinals, and made sure that her bird feeders were always full. Carmen dedicated her life to her loving family, who will miss her dearly. She is preceded in death by her parents, Effie Jane Moore Tanner and Mannie Tanner, her sisters, Cleo Ward and Doris Robinson, her son, John Hamilton III, and her daughter-in-law, Dean Hamilton (William). Carmen is survived by her children, William Hamilton, Donald Hamilton (Reina), Patricia Hamilton, Jacqueline Turner (David), Virginia Mims (Scott), and Merry Cox (Terry). She is also survived by her grandchildren, John Hamilton (Stacey), Donna Webb (Robert), Lisa Allsup (Chad), Jeffery Hamilton (Miranda), Eric Hamilton (Janice), Melanie Hamilton, Alison Mims, Elizabeth Mims, Kevin Mims, and Andrea Cooley (Nicolas), and a host of great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Special appreciation goes to Mary Ann Crum, who lovingly cared for her. Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, June 24, 2021, at 2:00 P.M. from the Chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home with the visitation beginning at 1:00 P.M. Interment will be at Mobile Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
