Jorge Ignacio Bedia passed away unexpectedly Saturday, October 9, 2021 in Mobile, Alabama. Jorge was born July 5, 1953 in Havana, Cuba. His family fled Cuba when Jorge was 7, and he was always deeply grateful for his American citizenship. He was a graduate of Catholic High School in New Iberia, Louisiana, and The University of Southwestern Louisiana in Lafayette (currently Louisiana-Lafayette). As an analytical chemist, he was consistently committed to integrity and safety during his many years of work. Jorge was an active member of St, Ignatius Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and the Catholic Cursillo Movement. He was a devoted and beloved husband and father. Jorge was predeceased by his parents, Rafael G. Bedia and Ines M. Alvarez Bedia. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Sarah Jane Sunstrom Bedia, his sons, Lucas, in Mobile, and Andrew, in Rochester, New York. He is also survived by his brothers, Rafael (Loretta) of Roanoke, Virginia and Carlos of New Iberia, Louisiana, and his sister Ines “Nena” M. Bedia Suit (Kevin) of New Iberia, and by numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation shall be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m on Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at Ascension Funeral Home, 1016 Hillcrest Road in Mobile, followed by a 7:30 p.m. recitation of the Holy Rosary. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m. on Thursday, October 14, 2021 at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, 3704 Springhill Avenue in Mobile. Burial will immediately follow at Mobile Memorial Gardens Cemetery at 6100 Three Notch Road in Mobile.
