Mr. James Oliver Rice, age 96, resident of Mobile, AL, passed away on Sunday, November 7, 2021. He is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Lorese, daughter Sheila Rice, parents Joseph and Mattie Rice and siblings; Earl, Charles, Sonny, Harold, Eugene Rice, Betty Rice Boswell and two baby sisters “In the Lord”.
Mr. Rice was a graduate of Murphy High School and retired after many years from Brookley/Teledyne. He was a member of Knights of Columbus 666, Friendly Sons of St. Patricks, was a member of several mystic societies, serving as President and King. He served his country honorably in the United States Army Air Corps and was a longtime member of Holy Family Church.
Mr. Rice is survived by his children; Richard Rice (Peggy) and daughter, Sissy Rice Thornton. He is also survived by his grandchildren; Greg Thornton, Elizabeth Thornton Massengale, Katelyn Thornton, sisters, Lillian Rice Kerner, Jeanette Rice Penner, Roseanna Rice Jenson, great-grandkids, Wyatt Massengale, Jase Thornton, Oliver “Ollie” Massengale. He also leaves behind close friends, Ashley Camp, Kristi Martin and many other nieces, nephew, other family and friends.

Visitation will be held at Radney Funeral Home-Mobile on Thursday, November 11, 2021 from 9:30 a.m. until ll:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Family Church beginning at 12:00 noon. Interment will follow in Mobile Memorial Gardens.
