Mary E. (Carter) Harrison, age 86 of Mobile, AL, passed away peacefully and went to be with the Lord on December 29, 2021.
She was born in Mobile, AL and was a longtime resident of Gulfport, MS. She was the daughter of Reverend Edward and Nettie Carter. She had six sisters and three brothers.
Mary was a member of the Gulfport Church of God. She loved fishing, traveling, country music, dancing, singing, writing poetry, sketching pictures, and cooking. She was a licensed cosmetologist, cashier for A&P Foods, and a salesperson at JC Penney Department Store.
Mary was the mother of two: her son Richard and daughter Karen. Grandmother of three granddaughters: Brandy, Jennifer, and Sarah and nine great-grandchildren. She would always tell her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren: "I love you much, too much!"
She also had a special love and place in her heart for James R. Dyess, Mary (Sissy) Harrison, and Johnny Koonse.
She was preceded in death by her son Richard.
She is survived by her daugther Karen, her grandchildren Brandy (Travis), Jennifer (Sean), and Sarah, and her nine great-grandchildren.
You are my sunshine,
my only sunshine.
You make me happy,
when skies are gray.
You'll never know dear,
how much I love you.
Please don't take,
my sunshine away.
When tomorrow starts without me,
please try to understand, that an angel
came and called my name, and took me
by the hand. The angel said my place was
ready, in Heaven far above, and that I'd
have to leave behind all those I dearly
love. But when I walked through
Heaven's Gates, I felt so much at home
when God looked down on me and smiled at me
and told me: "Welcome home."
So when tomorrow starts
without me, don't think we're
far apart. For every time
you think of me,
I'm right there in your heart.
