oseph Douglas Stevens, Sr. of Mobile, Alabama, was called to his heavenly home on Monday, January 31, 2022 at the age of 75. He courageously fought esophageal cancer for 2 ½ years after his initial diagnosis in July of 2019. His wife and 3 children were by his side as he took his last breath at home. Joe is preceded in death by his father, Wyman Douglas Stevens and mother Talma Galloway Stevens. Joe is survived by his wife of 51 years, Nancy Aylward Stevens, his son Joseph Douglas Stevens, Jr. (Jennifer) Mobile, AL, his daughters, Jennifer Stevens Cross (Chris) Eustis, FL, and Jessica Stevens Davis (Robert) Mobile, AL and 7 grandchildren, Emma Claire Cross, Anna Marie Stevens, Addison Elyse Cross, Steven Robert Davis, Joseph Douglas Stevens III (Trey), Sadie Mae Davis, Christopher Patrick Cross, Jr. (Pate), and brother Charles Jackson Stevens (Barbara). Joe was born in Mobile, AL on May 19, 1946. He graduated from Theodore High School in 1964. He worked as a draftsman at Alabama Shipyard after high school. He was in the Army National Guard from October 1965 - February 1970. He married Nancy Jean Aylward on February 20, 1970 in Atlanta, GA. After working as a draftsman in Atlanta with BP oil, he was eager to return to his roots in Mobile, AL to raise a family. Joe continued his career at Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, MS where he retired as a Hull Design Engineer in December 2010. Joe loved working outside, riding the tractor, spending time with his children and grandchildren, watching Alabama football, car racing, and fixing things. Joe was a devoted member of Grace United Methodist Church, and later Woodridge Baptist Church. He had many roles throughout the years within the church and helped behind the scenes in many capacities.

Visitation will be Friday, February 4 from 10:00a.m. until 12:00p.m. at Woodridge Baptist Church, located at 2700 Schillinger Rd. South, with a memorial service following at noon. Graveside will be immediately following the service at Mobile Memorial Gardens.
