Doris Jernigan Steed departed this world to meet her Heavenly Father on November 21, 2021, at 87 years old. She was a devout Christian and was a member of Hollinger’s Island Baptist Church and later Dauphin Island Baptist Church. She was a Sunday School teacher, choir member, and was involved in mission work. She was a graduate of Murphy High School and later Mobile Infirmary Nursing School. She worked with the Diagnostic and Medical Clinic as a registered nurse for over half her life and never missed a day of work. She was a member of the Sweet Adeline’s singing group and traveled around the world with them. She taught English as a second language in her free time. She was an environmental advocate participating in community cleanup daily and recycling before it was mainstream. She was active her whole life and held the Alabama 5K state record at age 79. She was loved by everyone and was always willing to lend a helping hand. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Lansing Steed; two children, Elise (Robert) Split, Lance (Jennifer) Steed; 4 grandchildren, Madison Split, Morgan Split, Jackson Steed, and Benjamin Steed; other relatives, and many friends.

There will be a graveside service on Friday, November 26, 2021 at 12 PM. Interment will be held in Mobile Memorial Gardens.
