Georgia Lee (nee Harrell) Bunkley, a long time resident of Mobile, passed June 16 at age 70 after a battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband, William (Bill)R. Bunkley, two children and their spouses, Michael (Stephanie) Bunkley and Kimberly (Trey) Cavadel; five grandchildren, Kyla Foret, Noah, Caiden and Reagan Cavadel, and Elizabeth Bunkley; her mother Lillian Harrell, her sister, Clyde Harrell, a brother, Dale (Susan) Harrell, nephew Will (Shannon) Harrell and niece Katherine Harrell. Also, many aunts, cousins, and extended family.
Georgia loved life and lived it to the fullest. She loved to travel and camp. During the three years her family lived in Germany, they toured Europe. Once stateside, they visited Alaska, the Southwestern United States, and the West Coast. She never met a stranger anywhere she went. Mardi Gras season always required a trip to New Orleans to be part of the scene. When Bill's bluegrass bands performed she became their enthusiastic "Bluegrass Chick" supporter.
She embraced her hobbies with joy and passion, especially reading. She was an avid and devoted reader eager to share her love of books with others. She filled her mind, imagination, and home with books. There was no better way for her to spend the day than with a good book! She was an avid needle craftier, quilter, crochet, and beading enthusiast. One of her greatest past times for many years was performing as a member of the Zuri Middle Eastern Dancers around the Mobile area. She loved designing and crafting original costumes and performing in them.
She worked for many years at the Mobile County Probate Court until her retirement. After that she was able to devote time to her greatest joy, which was being "Mema" to her grandkids. Her success as a grandmother is reflected in the love and devotion that her five grandchildren have for her. Georgia danced through life and all who knew her were touched by her magic. Georgia will be always loved, forever missed and never forgotten.
