Shirley Bazzell (Evelyn) Hass, 89, passed away peacefully Sunday, October 2, 2022 surrounded by her loving family at her home. Mrs. Hass was born on May 4, 1933 to Elbert J. Bazzell and Clara Myrtle Dunn Bazzell in Calvert, Alabama. She worked at the Diagnostic and Medical Clinic for 39 years until her retirement in 1998. Mrs. Hass was a lifelong member of Moffett Road Baptist Church. Over the years she was a member of the choir, served as a teacher for the Adult Singles Sunday School Class and worked with preschool children in Children's Church on Sunday mornings. She loved spending time with her family and looked forward, with excitement, to the Bazzell family reunion each July. Mrs. Hass is survived by her husband Curtis L. Hass, one son Martin Long (Marion), one daughter Debby Stearns (Ricky), three grandsons, Michael Stearns, David Stearns (Sara) and Jeremy Long, one granddaughter Melissa Flowers (Andrew), six great-grandchildren, Cheyenne, Mylee, and Patrick Stearns, Sam, Jack, and Molly Flowers and many devoted family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elbert and Clara Bazzell, her five sisters Maye Knight (Gilmer), Louise Truett (Billie), Lucille Bedwell (Joe), Wanda Hindman, and Ruth Barnett (Morrison). The family would like to thank Dr. Martin Lester for his many years of being her compassionate, caring physician. The family would like to thank the caregivers of Alabama Hospice Care who provided exceptional and loving care for Mrs. Hass during the last month of her life.

  1. My prayers are with all of Evelyn's family. She was such a sweet lady. I knew her from the Springhill Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and working with her in the gift shop.

  2. Such a sweet soul. Many fond memories of working with her at DMC. Another angel in heaven. Prayers for her sweet, loving family.

  3. Loved our sweet Evelyn. Will always remember how sweet and helpful she was when l started to work. And how much work she did keeping the retired ladies together. So sorry l cannot be there but in rehab learning to walk again after a fall but you all are in my prayers.
