William Sidney Douglas Sr.

May 9, 1941 - January 8, 2023
William Sidney Douglas, Sr. was reunited with his heavenly wife, Phyllis, on Sunday, January 8, 2023. He passed away at the age of 81 at The Retreat by SAAD Hospice. William was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Wright Douglas; parents, James William Douglas and Leona Sheppard Douglas; sister, Doris Douglas Prine; and brother, James Willis Douglas. William is survived by his four children, Collene Parks, Karan Kominek (David), Tammy Nelson (Doug), and Bill Douglas of Memphis, TN; two sisters, Liz Douglas Davis of Baker, FL and Irene Douglas Jones of Mobile, AL; 9 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; other relatives, and friends. William was a lifelong resident of Mobile, AL. He was married to the love of his life for 46 years until her untimely death in 2003. Together, William and Phyllis raised 4 children which led them to 9 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. He spent his career in the automotive industry selling auto parts and eventually became one of the best small engine mechanics in Mobile. He always had an extensive knowledge of engines and loved the challenge of repairing or restoring them. Beyond working in his shop, he loved to deer hunt, go fishing, and watch Alabama football. He was truly the best husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, uncle, and friend. He will be dearly missed by all. William’s family would like to thank Dr. Daniel Cameron and his staff for the exceptional care they provided during his battle with cancer and the staff at The Retreat by SAAD Hospice for offering comfort and support in his last days. Somewhere in heaven right now there’s an old jukebox playing a 1950s' song and Mama and Daddy are on the dance floor doing the jitterbug. Enjoy mom and dad! Until we meet again, we love y’all.

  1. William was a wonderful man and truly a great neighbor. He and I shared several conversations together as he was going through this sickness. I appreciate the opportunity to have been able to be a friend to just listen at this time. I pray for comfort for all the family. God bless you all. Bruce Bryant (neighbor across the street).
