Cort Burk Schlichting died peacefully after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease in Mobile, Ala., on April 15, 2023. Cort was born in Hackensack, NJ, to Alva Marie Gallon Schlichting and Cort Burkhart Schlichting. He is survived by his wife, Susan Mansfield Shackelford Schlichting; his three daughters, Kirsten Elizabeth Schlichting Efird (Treece) of Pensacola, FL; Erica Mansfield Schlichting Jennings (John) of Nashville, TN; Mary Burk Schlichting (Andy Molino) of Oakland, FL; 5 grandchildren, Aidan, Samuel, and Abigail Efird; Emilee and Jonathan Jennings. He is also survived by a sister, Christine Marie Schlichting and a nephew, Benjamin Wray of Norwich, CT.
Dr. Schlichting was a graduate of The College of William and Mary (BA Economics); Duke University (MA, Economics); and Louisiana State University (PhD, Economics). Cort loved reading, hiking in the Tetons, and classical music. He taught at Spring Hill College for 32 years. Not wanting to be retired, he then worked for the city of Mobile for 12 years at the Fire-Rescue Department. He never stopped learning.

A memorial service will be held at Spring Hill Presbyterian Church on Saturday, April 22, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. with a reception to follow. Cort loved flowers but would prefer in lieu of flowers that, should you wish, donations may be made to Spring Hill Presbyterian Church, Mobile Symphony Orchestra, or the Grand Teton Nation Park Foundation.
