Hien My Pham, a remarkable individual who touched the lives of many, has left us on May 16th, 2023, at the age of 49. Born in the beautiful town of Ninh Thuận, Việt Nam, Hien embarked on a journey that would lead her to become a beacon of hope and inspiration to those around her.
In 1993, Hien came to the United States, driven by a determination to pursue her dreams. She pursued her education at the University of South Alabama, where she earned her BS degree in Mobile, Alabama. Hien then attended the University of Colorado Skaggs School of Pharmacy and became a pharmacist.
Hien's professional journey led her to Ascension Providence Hospital in Mobile, Alabama, where she dedicated 16 years of her life as a clinical pharmacist. Her unwavering commitment to her patients and her genuine care made her a beloved figure among her colleagues and those she served.
Hien’s life story unfolded unexpectedly in 2003, when she received a devastating diagnosis. At the end of her fourth-year pharmacy rotation, she learned that she had been struck by a rare form of bile duct cancer. The prognosis was grim, giving her a mere six months to live. However, Hien's spirit remained unbroken, and she refused to surrender to despair.
With unwavering determination, Hien faced the challenges that lay ahead. She underwent treatments, fought through the pain, and embraced each day as a gift. Her resilience was truly extraordinary, inspiring all who knew her. Hien not only defied the odds but also continued to pursue her passion for helping others suffering from cancer.
As a 20-year cancer survivor and pharmacist, Hien channeled her expertise and personal experience to provide unwavering support to those on the same difficult path. She became a pillar of strength, offering guidance and a compassionate ear to cancer patients and their families. Her impact extended far beyond the pharmacy walls, as her warm heart and empathetic nature brought comfort to those in need.
Hien formed Caring Kids, a local organization that encouraged kids to help other kids with cancer. Caring Kids epitomizes the essence of care and kindness. Hien's deep-rooted empathy inspired children and adults alike to join hands. Together, they embarked on a mission to bring solace and support to cancer children in need.
While her professional achievements and dedication to her patients are commendable, Hien's joy in life also came from the love she shared with her family. Survived by her loving parents, five brothers, three sisters, in-laws, and a host of nieces and nephews, Hien's spirit will continue to shine through the bonds she forged with her cherished family.
Beyond her personal and professional achievements, Hien found joy and solace in her hobbies. Gardening allowed her to nurture life, as she cultivated vibrant flowers and plants with her tender care. And when the music played, Hien embraced the art of ballroom dancing, gracefully twirling and swaying, her spirit alive in every movement.
In her journey, Hien taught us a valuable lesson – to discover our enthusiasm and meaning in life and strive to attain them while we still can. She faced adversity with grace, lived life to the fullest, and traveled the world, leaving footprints on different continents.
Hien My Pham will forever remain in our hearts, a beacon of strength, courage, and love. Her legacy will inspire us to overcome challenges, to lend a helping hand to those in need, and to embrace life with a spirit as vibrant as the flowers she tended in her garden. May her soul find eternal peace, knowing that her impact on the world will be cherished and remembered always.
