Ina Rose (Puckett) Evans was born January 5th, 1932 in Lookout, West Virginia to a family of eight children – three brothers and four sisters. She passed away peacefully on July 2nd, 2023 in Mobile, Alabama, her home for over 65 years. She is survived by two of her sisters: Goldie Stone and Carol Davis, her four children – Kathy, Steve, Gloria, and Tom, thirteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
Rose moved from West Virginia to Citronelle, Alabama with her family as a teen, where she later met her husband-to-be, “Gene” Evans. Gene and Rose were wed on May 5th of 1949 (Gene’s 19th birthday), later settled in Mobile, started their family and eventually had four children.
Gramma Rose, as most came to know her, was above all a wife and mother. She was always cheerful, and was eager to help anyone, especially family, with any need that arose. She rarely had a rude or unkind word to say. She was incredibly hard working, tirelessly making a home for her family. Though she was employed outside the home a couple of relatively brief periods, she never put anything before her family. She was described by one as “truly a Proverbs 31 wife and mother”.
Rose had a wonderful and full life with her husband of almost 69 years (Gene died one day before their 69th anniversary) – soul mates and best friends right to the end. She loved sharing stories from her childhood with her family, and how we learned so much about life itself from those stories.
Those who had the pleasure to know her will deeply miss her, but have the joy of knowing she is in Heaven with her Lord and Savior.
