It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dorothy Jean Whitten Dodd, 92, of Mobile. Jean, as she was known by family and friends, went to her heavenly home on December 6, 2023 with her family by her side. She was an angel on Earth and the family takes great comfort in knowing she is now happily with her heavenly Father.
Jean was born in Louisville, Mississippi on May 30, 1931, In the early 1940s, during WW-2, her family moved to Mobile, Alabama where she remained for the rest of her life.
Jean was a devoted wife of 76 years to the love of her life, Jimmie Gill Dodd. She was a loving and devoted Mother, and her greatest joy was having her house full of family and friends. She was an excellent seamstress, making clothes for her children, grandchildren and even making her daughter's beautiful Azalea Trail dress. Among her other loves was her church and reading God's word, cooking, vegetable gardening, raising her flowers and tending to her chickens.
Jean was predeceased by; her Father, Curnie Rupert Whitten; her Mother, Annie Lou Weeks Whitten; and her two brothers and sister. Jean is presently in heaven with them celebrating their reunion.
Jean is survived by; her husband, Jimmie Gill Dodd; her two sons, James Clifton Dodd (Lynn) and Roy Dale Dodd (Donna); her three daughters Debra Ann Dodd Robinson, Jeanmarie Dodd Hastings and Donna Lynn Dodd Hudson (Adam); 13 grandchildren, plus many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Visitation will be Monday, December 11, 2023 at Mobile Memorial Funeral Home from 10:30 to 11:00, followed by a graveside service at Mobile Memorial Gardens Cemetery at 11:00
