Mary Ruth Gunn Gunter – 84 year-old native of Millry, Alabama and resident of Mobile for the past 66 years, passed away on Thursday, February 15, 2024. She retired from the Mobile Area Water and Sewer Service as a customer service representative after 25 years of service. Mrs. Gunter also enjoyed playing the organ and piano for Westlawn Baptist Church, Central Baptist Church and Radney Funeral Home. She served as a docent at the Bragg-Mitchell Mansion, loved Minnie Pearl, enjoyed watching Lawrence Welk and listening to the Grand Ole Opry every evening. On most days, you could find Ruth at the Senior Center, playing dominoes with her friends. Mary Ruth was a member of Luke 4:18 Fellowship.
Mrs. Gunter was preceded in death by her parents, Irvin Glenn Gunn and Ena Lottie Page Gunn, her husband of 35 years, John Clayton Gunter, and siblings, Robert L. Gunn, Anne L. Lewis, and Carolyn Joyce Johnson. She is survived by her daughters, Katrina Lynne Gunter Busby (Ken) and Kirsten Leah Gunter Hall (Jim); her grandchildren, to whom she was known as “Nonnie”, Dr. Kenneth M. Busby, III (fiance`Hannah) and Katherine Page Busby Breaux (Alix); siblings, John Wesley Gunn (Ouida), Sadie Kathryn Gunn McIlwain (Bob), and Marvin Glenn Gunn (Barbara); brother-in-law, Ken Johnson; sister-in-law, Rebekah Gunn; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The family would like to offer a special heartfelt thanks to the entire staff of the Mobile Infirmary Surgical Intensive Care Unit for all of their wonderful care and support during Mrs. Gunter’s time there.
The Reverend Mike Gunn and Reverend Robert McIlwain will preside over the ceremony. Peyton Parker will play the Piano and Butch Franklin will sing Ruth’s favorite songs. Serving as pallbearers will be Kenneth Murray Busby, Jr, Kenneth Murray Busby, III, Alix Breaux, Jacob Busby, Stan Winter & Kevin Foster.

Funeral services will be held from Luke 4:18 Fellowship on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at 10 a.m. The family will receive friends at the church from 9am until the service hour. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens.
