Camilla Newbill

February 10, 1944 — May 4, 2024
Camilla Ann (Jones) Newbill of Mobile, died on May 4, 2024, at the age of 80. She was born on February 10, 1944, in Columbia, South Carolina, to Vincent Alverson and Vurvel Olene (Cruce) Jones. Camilla's life reflected her love for God and his son Jesus. She was married to Vernon Alton Newbill with whom she shared 50 years of happiness in marriage. She was the mother of three precious, loving children: Vernon Alton, Jr., Lana Renee (Newbill) Thompson, and Vincent Bradley, as well as wonderful daughters-in-law, Deana and Dana and son-in-law, John Thompson. She felt truly blessed by the arrival of her five wonderful grandchildren: Bradford Phillip (Bekah) and Grace Katherine Thompson, Stanley Alton, Craig Vincent, and Bradley Connor Newbill. They added special joy to her life. She attended Plateau Church of Christ as a child and University Church of Christ in Mobile for the past 54 years. There, she was active in both women's and children's ministries as well as other service groups. In addition, she made mission trips with her husband, Vernon, to the Philippine Islands and helped to sponsor a Bible student and a child there. Having graduated from Vigor High School in 1962, she attended the University of Alabama where she received her B.S. and M.A. degrees. She taught Middle School English at Bessemer Junior High, Scarborough Middle School, and Mobile Christian School. She maintained lifetime friendships with many from these schools. In addition, she was a member of Brownie and Girl Scout Troop 11 of which she had been a member for sixty plus years. Her children and grandchildren will forever cherish precious memories of her. She was truly the example of a Christian Servant of the Lord. As far back as anyone can remember, she spent time helping those in need which included cooking for, caring for, and visiting others. Her delicious Sunday lunches and famous homemade ice cream and brownies will forever be remembered! Her heart, which was full of love and generosity, exemplified the biblical example of godly women such as in Proverbs 31: 26-28. "She opens her mouth with wisdom, and on her tongue is the law of kindness. She watches over the ways of her household, and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her blessed; Her husband also, and he praises her." She was predeceased by her devoted husband, Vernon Alton Newbill; and sister Danya Bowers; survived by children: Vernon Alton Newbill, Jr. (Deana), Lana Renee Thompson (John), and Vincent Bradley Newbill (Dana); five grandchildren, Bradford (Bekah) and Grace Thompson, Stanley, Craig and Connor Newbill; and many other relatives.
