Ronald Charles Webb Sr, a native of Ocean Springs, MS and resident of Mobile passed away of natural causes on July 11, 2024. Ronald, better known in his circle of friends & family as “Ron”, graduated from Ocean Springs High School in 1948 where he immediately enrolled into the Navy. He served as a Hospital Corpsman in the Korean & Vietnam wars and eventually retired from the Coast Guard in 1970 as a Chief Petty Officer. During this time, he was awarded the following: Coast Guard Commendation, National Defense Service Medal w/ one Bronze Star, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, & 3 Good Conduct Medals. After retiring from the military, he served as an X-Ray Tech & LPN in the private sector within the Orthopedic field. He returned to college at almost 50 years old and earned an associate’s degree in nursing (ADN) from Bishop State Community College. He then worked as a Surgical Charge Nurse for almost 15 more years at Spring Hill Memorial & Providence Hospitals. He was incredibly fond of surgical hospital environments and loved working in them for decades. He eventually retired as an R.N. in the early 90s and eventually settled down with his wife of almost 60 years, Raycelia Brantley Webb, in Daphne, AL. Mr. Webb became a resident of the William F. Green Veteran’s Home in Bay Minette, AL in 2020 where became a beloved member of that community for the last 4 years. The Webb family much appreciates this veteran’s center’s love and care of our father during his time there. They were so good to him, especially in his final days.
Ron grew up in Ocean Springs, MS, specifically right on the beach in the Fountainebleau community. There he learned to live off the land and sea using cast nests, traps, & shotguns while dodging the tropical weather that frequented the MS Gulf Coast during the summers. Most of his family’s seaside home was destroyed during the 1947 hurricane but they managed to rebuild it. He loved living along the Gulf Coast and eventually made Mobile, AL home after his retirement from the service. Ron was known among his family, friends, & peers as a humorous, sincere, diligent, hardworking, & loving man. He was a father to 6 children (5 sons & a daughter) and did his best to provide for them as best he could. Some became military brats living as far away as Greece while Ron served on a radio broadcast ship that blasted out Voice of America programming to Mediterranean countries. After his retirement from the Coast Guard, he enjoyed his family immensely. He coached his youngest boys in baseball at Mims Park, enjoyed boating & fishing, and became an involved band parent for the Murphy High School Marching Panthers. He loved college football and enjoyed attending or watching Bama & Auburn games. He had children that graduated from both universities, so he did his best to stay neutral. He loved singing, swimming, running, and especially dancing in his younger years. He is survived by his loving wife, Raycelia Brantley Webb of Daphne; Brother Kenneth Riley Webb of Ocean Springs, MS; Sister Sheila Miriam Webb of Ocean Springs, MS; Daughter Marsha Lane Webb of Arlington, VA; Son Ronald Charles Webb Jr. (“RC”) of Beulah, ND, Son Gregory Stephen Webb of Burnsville, NC, Son Robert Keith Colville of Birmingham, AL; Son David Charles Webb of Mobile, AL; Grand Children Caitlin Berry Walden (Marsha), Logan Colville (Robert), Cason Colville (Robert), Aubrey Webb (Gregory), Nicholas Webb (Gregory), Charleston Webb (David), Fincher Webb (David), Tyson Webb (RC), Angela Webb (RC), & Ginny Ann Wu (RC); 8 great-grandchildren; he also leaves behind numerous nieces & nephews. He is preceded in death by his Father Aubrey Webb Sr; Mother Genevieve Delores “Nan” Byrd Webb; Brother Aubrey Walbridge Webb Jr; Son Geary Allen Webb, and Grandson Gregory Webb II (Gregory).Phone: 251-661-1333
