On October 19, 2023, Beatrice Burton went to be with the Lord, having passed peacefully surrounded by her loved ones. “Do not weep for me for I have not gone” Beatrice, who lovingly went by Bea, was born in Plainfield, New Jersey on August 16, 1933 to her Father, Baron Mendez II and her Mother, Grace E. Mendez. She is preceded in death by her Parents and her Brother, Baron Mendez III, and Sister,
Grace Delnegro. She is survived by Son, John Michael Wypick; Son, Randy Baron Wypick, and Daughter, Linda Theresa Wypick. Bea had five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren who loved her deeply.
The girl from Plainfield grew up to be one of the most remarkably kind and loving women to grace God’s earth. Throughout her long and beautiful life Bea wore many hats, including as a retail saleswoman, beautician, caregiver, accountant, Sunday school teacher, Parish Catechetical leader and, most impressively, all while being a wonderful single mother. With grace and benevolence, Bea raised three beautiful children, John, Randy, and Linda. However, Bea’s warmth and kindness could not be contained. Known affectionately throughout her family and community as Grand Bea, she ministered the same love and generosity to all as if they were her own kin. She loved animals and held the paws of countless dogs on her lap as she watched the sun set over Mobile Bay from her front porch. Bea loved owls and sported
a menagerie of over 300 owl memorabilia. She was a hoot. An avid crocheter, Bea created baby blankets, booties and outfits for newborns, as well as beautiful afghans, potholders and hand towels for her community, family, and friends. Bea was a puzzle queen and would save the victorious last
piece for her grandchildren or great grandchildren. When she visited her sons in Puerto Rico and California, Bea attended masses in many historic churches and became well known across the land as everyone’s Grand Bea. Bea loved the Lord. As a devoted Catholic, Bea served humbly as the Parish Catechetical Leader at Our Lady of Lourdes and helped support new Catholics grow spiritually.
To know Bea, was to know true, selfless love. We thank the Lord for blessing Bea and for Him blessing us with Bea. We will remember Bea every time we see an owl, a beautiful sunset, or place the last puzzle piece. We will honor her memory by sharing the same love she showed us time and time again.
