Donnie Neil Rowell, a lifelong resident of Mobile, Alabama, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 65 years old.
Donnie was born on September 5, 1959, and spent his life rooted in the Mobile community. He attended Murphy High School and went on to graduate from the University of South Alabama. Following his education, he pursued a successful career in the field of computer science, ultimately retiring as the Information Systems Manager at the South Alabama Regional Planning Commission in December 2023.
A man of many talents and quiet strength, Donnie was also a first-degree black belt in taekwondo. He will be remembered for his dedication to his work, his love for his family, and his enduring resilience.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Nan Wang Rowell; his stepchildren, Jessica Petit (Frederic Petit) and Fran Lamour; his beloved grandchildren, Alexis Conner and Nathalie Petit; and his great-granddaughter, Ava Grace Lowery. He also leaves behind his niece, Amy Rowell.
Donnie was preceded in death by his parents, Marshall and Shirley Rowell; his sister, Mamie Rowell; and his first wife, Marie A. Rowell (Bonnie).

A celebration of Donnie’s life will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. in the chapel at Ascension Funeral Home, 1016 Hillcrest Road, Mobile, AL 36695.
