Herbert Joseph Therrell

April 13, 1944 – May 29, 2025
Herbert Joseph “Joe” Therrell, 81, a native Mobilian, passed away peacefully at Springhill Memorial Hospital, on May 29, 2025, surrounded by family. Born on April 13, 1944, in Mobile, Joe lived a life full of love, service, and dedication. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy for four years before beginning a 40-year career as an electrician at the Alabama State Docks, where he was known for his strong work ethic and reliability. Joe was a man of many passions. He loved tinkering in his shop, casting a line while fishing, working with his hands on woodworking projects, and sharing his voice through singing. His deep faith was a guiding light in his life-he was an active member of his church and found great joy in teaching Sunday school for many years. Joe loved his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Julia Therrell and their children: Chris Therell, Adam Therrell (Mickey), Robin Mizell, DeeDee Fatz (Bernie), Stephanie Therrell, and Nicole McDuffie (John) and his sister Juanita Smith. He was the proud grandfather of 19 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. He is preceded in death by his children David Therrell and Rebecca Hansen. Joe will be remembered for his steady presence, kind heart, and unwavering faith. His legacy of love, craftsmanship, and service lives on through the many lives he touched. “The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; Thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: And I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.” Psalm 23:1-6
