Eugene F "Gene" Looney of Mobile, Al passed away after a brief illness May 29, 2025 surrounded by family.
Gene was a graduate of Murphy HS ('56). He spent the first half of his career life at Sears and Roebuck and afterwards as an agent for Nationwide Insurance until his retirement. He was a lifelong fan of all forms of motorsports, he drove race cars and later owned winning race cars. His greatest love though was for his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and he led his family by example of his faith. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gene Sr and Dorothy Looney, his wife and the love of his life Shirley, brother Mike Looney, grandson Adam Looney and his canine companion Champ. He is survived by daughters Karen (Ron) Dollar and Kathy Looney, son Greg (Elaine) Looney, grandsons Ronny Dollar, Jackson Looney and Daniel (Morgan) Churchwell, granddaughter Jennifer (Daniel) Wilkerson, grand daughter in-law Jordan Looney, and 4 great grands, Kylie, Olivia, Coleman, and Evan, brothers Terry (Marie) Looney and Billy Looney and loving companion Sandra Herrington. The family would like to express their great appreciation to the staff at Mobile Infirmary SICU and Saad's Retreat for the love and amazing care and compassion provided to Gene during his time there.Phone: 251-661-1333
