Nguyen Van Thu of Montgomery, Alabama, passed away on February 16, 2026, following a brave battle with cancer. He passed away too soon in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family. Prayers surrounded him as his soul meets the Father in Heaven.
Born on December 31, 1938, in Cai Mon, Bentre, Vietnam, Thu was a son, a brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He touched the lives of many with his profound joy, tenderness, humor, and strong sense of family. Thu was proud to have recently sponsored the rest of his children from Vietnam, reuniting four eldest children with his two younger children as they set up a warm household in Montgomery, where his family moved to 2024 after initially immigrating to Mobile, AL in .
Thu served in the Vietnam Army as a financial advisor managing, auditing, and certifying the army's budget and payroll during his services.
Thu is survived by his wife, Nguyen Thi Phuoc, his children, Nguyen Minh Dat (Thu), Nguyen My Dung (Tien), Nguyen My Van (Linh), Nguyen My Loan (Nam), Nguyen Minh Tam, and Nguyen My Uyen (Hai). He is also survived by nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren - all who will forever cherish his memory.
Thu was preceded in death by his father, mother, his siblings Kim Hoa and Thanh.
Thu was a long-time parishioner of Little Flower Church in Mobile, AL.
Thu was diagnosed with stomach cancer in 2024. Despite his diagnosis, Thu was active and remained positive even in his last days still traveling, enjoying decadent dinners with his large family, celebrating holidays, and maintaining his joy of reading.

A gathering to honor and celebrate Thu will take place on Friday, February 27 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Mobile Memorial Gardens with a funeral mass on the following day, Saturday February 28 at St Monica Catholic Church starting at 9:00 a.m.
