Dr. Axel "Bubba" Norstedt, Jr., native and lifelong resident of Mobile, AL went home to be with His Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on September 6, 2021 at the age of 89. He was born in Plateau township on December 17, 1931 to Axel Norstedt, Sr. and Mamie Lee (Hastie) Norstedt and graduated from Murphy High School. In 1951, he joined the United States Air Force and served his country honorably during the Korean War. Dr. Norstedt went on to pursue higher education and graduated from Auburn University where he met the love of his life and wife of 65 years, Mrs. Ruby Fowler Norstedt. He followed by obtaining his doctoral degree in dentistry from the University of Alabama. Dr. Norstedt would in time become the President of the Mobile Area Dental Association.
This incredibly accomplished and wonderful man enjoyed so much of all that life had to offer. He loved singing with the Joy Singers, dancing with his wife, playing corn hole, golfing, playing tennis, member of the Kiwanas Club, and member of the Mobile Snow Ski Club. His greatest joy was loving and serving the Lord and God's people. Dr. Norstedt attended Springhill Baptist Church and then Cottage Hill Baptist Church and played an active role within his church community, including greeter, chairman of the deacons, and being a Sunday school director. He loved people and clearly lived a life of humble service to Jesus Christ, his family, his neighbors, and his friends. This wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know him.
He was preceded in death by his brother, John David Norstedt and parents, Axel Norstedt, Sr., and Mamie Lee Hastie Norstedt.
Dr. Norstedt is survived by many adoring members of his family who have been honored by his legacy and memory; first and foremost his loving wife and best friend of 65 years, Ruby Fowler Norstedt; children, Elizabeth (Herman) Fountain, Dr. David Axel (Donna) Norstedt and Mark Alan Norstedt; sister, Ruth Norstedt Dahlen; grandchildren, Brandon Norstedt, Davelyn Scott, Ashley Norstedt, Emily Norstedt, Noel Norstedt, Sean Van Horn, Adam Van Horn, Elizabeth Namirr, Ryan Van Horn and Nicholas Van Horn; 19 great-grandchildren; numerous other relatives and friends.
