Barbara was born February 10, 1941, to Lillie Mae Chancellor Yost and Rufus Moore Chancellor. She graduated from Convent of Mercy Catholic School in 1959. She married her loving husband, George Edward Johnson, on January 7, 1961. They were married 52 years before he passed away.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and her only son, Christopher Dean Johnson, who was her pride and joy. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Tammy H. Johnson; three granddaughters, Jessica Mosley (Chaz), Anna Fisher, and Elizabeth Swinney (Stephen); and six great-grandchildren, Braxton Brettel, Collin Fisher, Lillie Ann Fisher, Rowan Fisher, Abigail Swinney, and Ellie Swinney. She is also survived by her sister, Patricia Sumlin, and two nephews, Guy Sumlin Jr. (Mia) and Michael Sumlin (Sara).
Barbara lived life to the very fullest. She was always encouraging, uplifting, and giving compliments. She loved spending time with her family and talking about them with everyone around her. She enjoyed going on vacations, especially cruises with her husband & family. Barbara was a very classy, Southern woman which showed in the way she carried herself and her wardrobe. She was known for baking pound cakes and delivering those to friends and family frequently. She considered that her ministry to others. Barbara loved the Lord and served Him faithfully her entire life. She was a member of Orchard Assembly of God Church. She was selfless, never hesitating to lend a helping hand or offer a word of advice.
Mrs. Johnson began her career working for Inge McMillan Inge law firm before going to work at Cunningham Bounds law firm. She was a legal assistant for Mr. Dick Bounds. Barbara worked there for over 25 years before retiring. She then continued working in her home, cooking, sewing, and serving her family.

Funeral services will be held from Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the service hour. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens.
