Barbara Jean Speed, age 78, of Mobile, born November 22, 1942, went to be with Our Lord on Friday, June 11, 2021.
Barbara is survived by her husband, William (Billy) Speed of Mobile. They were devoted to one another for 59 years. Barbara was a beautiful mother to her two sons, Scott Joseph Speed (Christine) of Mobile and Kevin Elbert Speed (Sherri) of Mobile and a grandmother to Tanner Merchant (Caroline), great grand-daughter Aubrey Merchant, all of Chunchula and granddaughter Tana Merchant of Saraland. She is also survived also by her sister Jeanette "Jean" Daniels, of Mobile. As well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relative and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Major Elbert Maurice Taylor and Evelyn V. Taylor, and brother-in-law, Billy Daniels. Barbara worked for 18 years with the US Army Corp of Engineers before enjoying her retirement with her loving family. Barbara was also an active member at Cottage Hill Baptist Church. Services will be held at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 16, 2021. The family will receive friends from 1:00pm until 2:00pm followed by the service at 2:00pm in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be at Mobile Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
