Barbara Ann Kountz Smith, 80, a lifelong resident of Mobile, AL, passed away Sunday, September 1, 2019. She was born July 13, 1939 in Mobile, AL to George Edward Kountz, Sr. and Juanita Lucille Manuel Kountz. Referred to by her family and their friends as “Maw Maw,” she was a lady that had an incredible heart for her family and all those that came to her home. She was known for her hospitality, as her home was always open to anyone that needed a meal or a place to live. She was constantly cooking meals, providing for her family, and entertaining people. She made everyone feel welcome and special by her hard work. People loved coming to her home, and the effect she had on peoples’ lives was tremendous. Maw Maw was known and loved by the way she cared for everyone. When she was not entertaining people in her home, she was a great support for all of her children and grandchildren in any activity that they were involved. She was at all their ball games, school plays, school concerts or anything that her family was involved in. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Douglas Darnell Smith, Sr.; and her siblings, Lucille Kountz Eubanks, George (Budgie) Kountz, Jr., Billy Kountz, Emma Kountz Jordan, Vera Kountz Walters, Mary Agnes Kountz Emmanuel, Rose Kountz Kiernan, and James Kountz. Survivors include her brother, Douglas Kountz; her sister, Annie Kountz Chappell; her children, Darnell (Tracy) Smith, Jr., Leo (Debra) Smith, Lenora (Alvin) Wilson, Clay (Linda) Smith, Danny (Michele) Smith and Clint (Ashley) Smith; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 6, 2019 at 10AM from the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. Burial will follow immediately in Mobile Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Thursday evening, September 5, 2019 from 5:00 PM until 7:30 PM at the funeral home and Friday morning from 9:00 AM until service time. Pallbearers will be Hunter Smith, Darnell Smith, III, Tony Smith, Chip Smith, Chandler Smith, Addison Smith, Matthew Ladnier and Richy Colmer.

A chapel service will be held at 10am on Friday, 09/06/2019 from Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, followed by a committal service at the grave site.
