Charles Ernest Pittman, 63, passed away on January 31, 2019 in Mobile, AL after a year of battling Glioblastoma Multiforma, a brain cancer. He was born in the U.S. Army hospital in Landstuhl, Germany to Harvey and Miriam Trawick Pittman on January 20, 1956. As an airplane mechanic in the U.S. Air Force and then as an Airframe and Avionics contractor, he always said he had the best job in the world. “Happy is he who is happy at his work.” He spent about 20 years based from Germany, where he would travel on assignments throughout Europe, Africa and the Middle East, and he loved it. He had been medically (honorably) discharged from the Air Force at the age of 22 due to 100[%] disability caused by Transverse Myelitis, a neurological injury. Despite this he always considered his career in Europe to be a great blessing. He retired in 1998 and returned to Mobile, AL and his family. He was preceded in death by his father, Harvey Ernest Pittman; brother, David Mitchell Pittman; two Golden Retrievers, Tasso and Tasso Too. He is survived by his daughter, Leslie Pittman (Frank) Haviland; grandchildren, Brent 20, Ryan 8 and Savannah Rose 2; mother, Miriam Trawick Pittman; sister, Karen Pittman (Dr. Frank) Jahns and their children, William 29, Michael 25 and Mary Elizabeth 24. Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, February 3, 2019 from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 4, 2019 at 10:00 AM from Kingswood United Methodist Church with visitation one hour prior to service. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens. We will all be diminished without Charley and the world be a less interesting place.
