Charles Ray Steadham - Mobile Memorial Gardens

Charles Ray Steadham

April 4, 1931 ~ June 7, 2022 (age 91)
A gentle man, kind and loving. He was born in Summerdale, Al on April 4th, 1931 to Lamar & Altha D. Steadham. He mostly lived in Mobile with a short time in Houston, TX and also spent time in Korea for the war. He was a mechanic extraordinaire. He could build any car from the ground up and was especially skilled with VW's! He had two brothers and three sisters, all now deceased. Reginald Smith, Marshall Steadham, Betty Steadham Stricklin, Sara Steadham Hall and Deloris Steadham Batton. Charles was married for 20 years to Berta Steel Steadham and had two daughters, Diane Steadham Peterson, and Robin Steadham Herrington. Berta now deceased, he married Elizabeth Bynum York and raised her two sons Danny Charles York, and Larry Alan York as if they were his very own. Diane and Danny are now deceased. Those left to cherish his memory are Robin Herrington, Wayne Peterson, Larry York, and his many grandchildren, close friends, but most of all his devoted and loving wife Elizabeth. There were six grandchildren, six great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. All of which made for a loving close family. Besides working on his VW's, dune buggies, rail jobs, etc. He was proficient in all other phases of restoring cars. He would always help anyone who needed advice with their "Bug." Fishing was one of his passionate hobbies, he loved talking to family and friends and was an avid Alabama football fan. In lieu of flowers, please choose to donate to your favorite charity. The world has lost a kind, gentle man and he will be missed dearly by all those who knew him. Good bye "Mr.Charlie". I love you Liz.

Condolences For
"Charles Ray Steadham"

  1. Liz, Robin and family - So sorry to hear about Uncle Charlie. He was the sweetest. I don't think i ever heard him raise his voice to any of us kids. One of my favorite memories is when he let some of us drive his car down an old dirt road! I couldn't have been more than 10 and he was laughing the whole time!
    He was my favorite Uncle.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.
    Love
    Deanna
