Charlie Gibson

May 3, 2024
The steps of good men are directed by the Lord. He delights in each step they take. If they fall it isn't fatal, for the Lord holds them with his hand. Psalm 37:23-24 Charlie Walter Gibson affectionately known as "Grandaddy" was born to John S. and Mattie L. Gibson in Quittman, Mississippi on May 22, 1936. He was raised in Mobile, Alabama alongside his brother Jimmy. He was a loving husband, devoted father, cherished grandfather, and respected member of the community. He fought a good fight until he peacefully passed away surrounded by family on April 30, 2024, at the young age of eighty-seven (87) in Foley, Alabama. Charlie had a successful career at International Paper Company as an Electrician/Instrument Technician for 40 years where he made lifelong friends. Charlie married the love of his life, Eileen, in 1954 and together they shared almost 70 wonderful years in marriage. They also had two beautiful children Dennis and Theresa. Throughout his life, Charlie was a family man, and he was known for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering integrity. He touched the lives of friends and family with his wisdom, compassion, and willingness to lend a helping hand to those in need. His presence brought joy and comfort to all who knew him, and his legacy of love and compassion will be felt by generations to come. As a young man, when Charlie attended Murphy High School, he played baseball. Later in life during his free time, he coached little league baseball, bowled on a bowling league, played golf, went on annual fishing trips to Louisiana with friends, and was an avid quail hunter. After moving to Foley, Alabama his passion on the weekends was dancing at the Alabama Gulf Coast Music Hall. He served as a Deacon at Snow Road Baptist Church in Mobile, and dearly loved his Savior. He was preceded in death by his loving parents, John S. and Mattie L. Gibson. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving and devoted wife Eileen Gibson; his loving son, Dennis Gibson; his loving daughter, Theresa (Dennis) Patrick; his loving brother, Jimmy (Cecilia) Gibson; five (5) wonderful grandchildren, Cerissa, April, Zach, Sean, Savannah; four (4) precious great-grandchildren, Ava, Cooper, Hudson, Owen; as well as other cherished family and friends. May his soul rest in peace, and may his memory continue to live in the hearts of those who loved him.
