Christopher R. Fillingham - age 51; died November 2, 2020 at his residence. Chris was the son of Robert and Carolyn Fillingham. He was born, raised and lived in Mobile, Alabama. He went to grade school at Cottage Hill Christian School and Mobile Christian School. He was a 1987 graduate of McGill-Toolen Catholic High School and he attended the University of South Alabama.
Chris had been an on air radio personality with WABB Radio from 1986 to 1997 and was known on air as Crash Conners. Chris began working for WPMI, NBC Television Station in 1997 and was in his 23rd year with the station as morning news director. He loved his job and all the people at WPMI. It must have been meant for him to be in television news because in elementary school, he was a news anchor on several "Small Fry News" segments on WKRG Television.
Chris was a sweet, kind, and compassionate person and will be missed more than can be expressed by his family and friends. Chris was preceded in death by his grandparents, William R. and Alice I. Fillingham; grandfather, Clarence M. Sullivan; uncle, Ronald (Marie) Fillingham; and aunt, Joan I. Cerny. Chris is survived by his parents, Robert and Carolyn Fillingham; sister, Jennifer (Robbie) Shearer; niece, Rebecca Shearer; grandmother, Annie C. Frisby; uncle, Michael A. Sullivan; aunt, Patricia (Charles) Hayman; cousins, David (Valerie) Fillingham, Barbara (Aubry) Wiggins, Donna Caviness, Cody (Stewart) Williams, Julie Turner, and Beth Maytum; and many other dear and cherished family and friends. Due to his love for animals, in lieu of flowers, donations to the Mobile Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals would be appreciated. Visitation will be from 12:00 Noon until 1:30 P.M. on Monday, November 9, 2020 at Ascension Funeral Home. Graveside services and interment will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Monday at Mobile Memorial Gardens.
